A vehicle includes a frame, a plurality of ground-engaging members, a steering assembly for steering the vehicle, an internal combustion engine, and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). An engine air intake system provides air to the engine and includes a first air inlet facing generally forwardly and a first rearwardly-extending conduit portion extending rearwardly from the first air inlet. The first rearwardly-extending conduit portion fluidly communicates with an engine air inlet. A CVT air intake system provides air to the CVT and includes a second air inlet facing generally forwardly and a second rearwardly-extending conduit portion extending rearwardly from the second air inlet. The second rearwardly-extending conduit portion fluidly communicates with a cooling air inlet of the CVT. The engine is disposed at least in part laterally between the first and second rearwardly-extending conduit portions.

A snowmobile comprises a chassis including a tunnel, an engine disposed on the chassis at a forward end thereof and a seat disposed above the tunnel behind the engine. The seat has an inclined rear end face extending upwardly and rearwardly with respect to the upper surface of the tunnel, a cavity being defined beneath the seat between the inclined rear end face and the upper surface of the tunnel. The cavity is adapted to receive at least a portion of a transportable object therein, such that the transportable object is locatable above the tunnel at least partially beneath the seat.

A snowmobile is described having a frame, at least one steerable ski disposed at a forward end of the frame, and an endless drive track disposed beneath a rearward end of the frame to propel the frame. A seat is mounted on the frame, which may accommodate at least one person. A fairing is disposed behind the seat, and a storage compartment is defined interiorly to the fairing. Variations are also described.

Rear fairing for a snowmobile

A snowmobile is propelled by an endless track that is operatively connected to the snowmobile's engine by two drive sprockets. Each drive sprocket includes one set of external teeth and two sets of internal teeth that engage three corresponding sets of track teeth formed on the track. Alignment cleats are mounted on the inside of each of one of the sets of track teeth. During low-load operation, contact between the cleats (and the track teeth on which the cleats are mounted) is minimized or eliminated, which reduces or eliminates noise caused by collisions between the metal sprocket and the metal cleats. During higher load operation, the track deforms such that the set of external sprocket teeth engage the cleats and associated set of track teeth.

A snowmobile provided comprises a chassis including a tunnel, an engine disposed on the chassis at a forward end thereof and a seat disposed on the tunnel behind the engine. The tunnel has an upper surface and a portion extending rearwardly beyond the seat. The seat has an inclined rear end face extending upwardly and rearwardly from the upper surface of the tunnel, a cavity being defined beneath the seat between the inclined rear end face and the upper surface of the tunnel. The cavity is adapted to receive at least a portion of a transportable object therein, such that the transportable object is locatable above the tunnel at least partially beneath the seat.

A snowmobile includes a chassis having a generally reduced length and a snow flap pivotally attached to the rear portion of the chassis, above the track system. The track system extends rearwardly beyond the chassis, and the snow flap shields the track system above and behind from spraying snow. The snow flap is linked to the track system so that as the track system moves through a range of travel relative to the chassis, the snow flap pivots relative to the chassis with the track system. This configuration prevents damaging contact between the tread and the undersurface of the snow flap and/or the chassis. The reduced length of the chassis decreases the weight of the snowmobile and the polar moment of inertia, thereby improving turning performance. A bumper extends from the snow flap and can be used to lift the rear of the snowmobile more easily.

A detachable passenger seat is selectively mountable onto a base frame of a snowmobile having a straddle-type rider seat. The passenger seat includes a cushioned seat portion supported by a seat frame. A forward portion of the passenger seat includes a bottom surface contoured to fit over and be supported by at least a portion of a rearward end of the rider seat when the passenger seat is attached to the snowmobile. Upwardly extending flexible grab handles are mounted to the lateral sides of the seat frame. Upper portions of the flexible grab handles extend higher than at least a portion of an upper surface of a cushioned seat portion of the passenger seat. The flexible grab handles are designed to be rigid enough to provide support to a passenger and flexible enough to allow a passenger to easily dismount the snowmobile.
