A pumping apparatus for use with a pump set to deliver fluid through the pump set to a subject includes a pumping device capable of acting on the pump set to produce a fluid flow within the pump set. A controller is in communication with the pumping device for controlling operation of the pumping device in a feeding configuration and in a flushing configuration. The controller is adapted to store a selected flow rate and a desired fluid volume of a first fluid in the memory and at least one of a flush rate and flush volume of a second fluid. A flush time compensator is capable of being run for determining a compensated feeding configuration of the first fluid based on an amount of time the controller will operate the pump device in the flushing configuration and the desired fluid volume of the first fluid.

Feeding rate compensated pump and related methods therefor

An electronic thermometer includes a probe adapted to be heated by a subject for use in measuring a temperature of the subject. At least one temperature sensor detects a temperature of the probe. A probe sensor detects a condition at the probe. The probe sensor has an idle condition when the probe is not inserted into the subject. A processor is operatively connected to the probe sensor and programmed to monitor a change in the condition of the probe sensor from the idle condition to determine whether the probe has been received in a probe cover and inserted into the subject.

An electronic thermometer includes a probe adapted to be heated by a subject for use in measuring a temperature of the subject. At least one temperature sensor detects a temperature of the probe. An IR emitter emits an infrared signal from the probe. And an IR detector detects the infrared signal emitted by the IR emitter. The detection of the IR signal by the IR detector indicates that the probe is received in a probe cover.

A peristaltic pump is able to deliver accurate volumes over the life of a pump set that is operated on by the pump to drive the flow of fluid. The pump delivers fluid in small volumes or aliquots. In order to deliver fluid at any particular selected flow rate, the pump determines how often the rotor will rotate. The pump is able to calculate aliquot volume based on selected flow rate, but also on a factor that compensates for changes in the dimensions of the pump set over its life.
