A method of controlling drivability of a vehicle detects an overall load acting on the vehicle. A mass of the vehicle or an estimate thereof is obtained. A controller determines whether the vehicle is negotiating a curve during a driving situation. If the vehicle is negotiating a curve during the driving situation, the controller determines whether the vehicle has a tendency to oversteer or to understeer. The load acting on the vehicle is dynamically changed or a suspension stiffness of the vehicle is dynamically adjusted to reduce the tendency of the vehicle to oversteer or to understeer.

System and method utilizing detected load for vehicle handling

A method identifies, for a vehicle, a low friction surface from a road surface with a slope. With the vehicle at standstill, the vehicle ignition is switched on. A normal load for the vehicle is calculated. It is determined if the vehicle is moving, and if the vehicle is moving, a vehicle load is calculated using suspension information from the vehicle. A road slope angle is calculated based on the calculated vehicle load and calculated normal load. A normal slope angle is calculated and is compared to the calculated road slope angle to determine if the vehicle is on a low friction surface or on a sloped surface. In accordance with another aspect of an embodiment, a method determines whether a trailer is coupled to a vehicle.

To operate an electrically controlled pressurized-fluid brake system, an external brake request signal is received, a curve radius of a vehicle track of the vehicle is determined, at least one limit value is determined based on the curve radius, at least one variable representing a brake pressure to be supplied to wheel brakes is compared with the at least one limit value, the at least one variable is limited based on the comparison, the at least one variable is outputted, and braking pressure is supplied to the wheel brakes based on the outputted at least one variable.
