A sheet stacking device includes: a mounting table on which a pallet is mounted, the mounting table having a lift; a sensor including: light emitters and light receivers each arranged in the lateral direction of the sheet stacking device so as to face with each other, the sensor to detect at least one of an upper surface of sheets stacked on the pallet or an upper surface of the pallet; and circuitry configured to cause the lift to lower the mounting table by a predetermined amount in response to the sensor detecting the at least one of the upper surface of the sheets or the upper surface of the pallet, and to determine that the sheets have been stacked abnormally when the sensor is not in a non-detection state after the mounting table has been lowered by the predetermined amount.

A recoding medium conveying device includes a conveyance belt, a first sensor, a second sensor, and circuitry. The conveyance belt has an endless loop shape and a length capable of conveying a plurality of recording media in one rotation. The first sensor is disposed upstream from the conveyance belt in a conveyance direction of a recording medium and is configured to detect the recording medium. The second sensor is configured to detect a home position of the conveyance belt. The circuitry is configured to adjust a rotation speed of the conveyance belt, while the conveyance belt makes one rotation, to eliminate an amount of deviation between a first detection timing of the recording medium detected by the first sensor and a second detection timing of the home position of the conveyance belt detected by the second sensor.

A paper stacking apparatus according to an embodiment of the present disclosure includes a stacking table, a first sensor, and a hardware processor. The stacking table includes an upper face on which papers are stacked, the stacking table being capable of being elevated and lowered by a drive mechanism. The first sensor is disposed at a first position and configured to detect the upper face of the stacking table or an upper face of stacked objects stacked on the stacking table. The hardware processor is coupled to the drive mechanism and the first sensor. The hardware processor is configured to determine that the stacking table is excessively elevated when an elapsed time after starting to detect the object by the first sensor is at least a first excessive-elevation determination value of time.

A sheet conveying device includes a detector configured to detect an attitude of a conveyance target medium, a corrector configured to perform a correcting operation based on a detection result of the detector, and circuitry configured to calculate an angular displacement correction amount and a lateral displacement correction amount of the conveyance target medium, cause the corrector to perform the correcting operation in a direction perpendicular to a sheet conveying direction, based on the lateral displacement correction amount, after the corrector grips the conveyance target medium, and cause the corrector to rotate by the angular displacement correction amount of the conveyance target medium before the corrector grips the conveyance target medium and to perform the correcting operation in a direction of rotation of the conveyance target medium, based on the angular displacement correction amount, after the corrector grips the conveyance target medium.
