An expandable biodegradable hemostatic matrix comprised of oxidized cellulose, and having a density ranging from about 0.8 to about 1.2 gr/cmis disclosed herein. The matrix may be expandable to at least 3 times its original volume within 4 sec upon contact with an aqueous solution room temperature. Further disclosed are methods for making the hemostatic matrix as well as method of treating a wound.

The present invention provides methods for large scale preparation of sterile stable liquid thrombin composition comprised of glycerol; stable liquid thrombin compositions; and hemostatic composition and kits. The invention relates to a device suitable for application of a curable fluid composition to encircle a bodily organ. The device comprises a monolithic piece of a flexible material having a length dimension with an inner surface and an outer surface, a first end and a second end, a width dimension, and two spaced-apart sides, wherein a portion of the length dimension proximal to the first end is configured to contact a portion of the length dimension proximal to the second end, the inner surface defining a hollow area between the two spaced-apart sides; and at least one inlet providing fluid communication between the outer surface and the inner surface, for introduction of the fluid into the hollow area. The device deployable around the bodily organ such that when the portion of the length dimension proximal to the first end contacts the portion of the length dimension proximal to the second end, an outer surface of the bodily organ and the hollowed area define an enclosed volume encircling the bodily organ, the enclosed volume suitable for containing the fluid therein.

The device comprises a monolithic piece of material having a lower surface, two spaced-apart sides, and two spaced-apart walls connecting the two spaced-apart sides. A receptacle for containing the curable fluid composition is defined by the lower surface, the two sides, and the two walls. At least a portion of the height of the two walls is less than the height of at least a portion of the two sides. The device is deployable underneath the bodily organ such that a lower portion of the bodily organ is supported by at least a portion of each of the two walls.

The present invention is directed to a dry pad comprising pectin, a divalent cation and thrombin and to its preparation. Preferably, the density of pectin in the dry pad of the invention ranges from about equal to or higher than 1% to lower than 7% (w/v). The pad according to the invention comprises pectin having a low methoxyl content.
