In one embodiment, a method for processing an e-mail message addressed to an e-mail client is disclosed. The method comprises receiving at a mail server an e-mail message addressed to the e-mail client, the e-mail message including an attachment which is characterized by a size; reducing the size of the attachment to create a reduced size attachment; preparing a formatted message, which includes the reduced size attachment and a link to the attachment, wherein the attachment is downloadable from the mail server using the link; and delivering the formatted message to the e-mail client for display on a computational device.

In one embodiment, a method of providing a modular document for display on a wireless communication device is disclosed. The method comprises receiving a request for the modular document from the wireless communication device for display thereon; requesting the document from a document server; retrieving user preferences for display of at least a portion of the modular document; receiving at a conversion server at least a part of the modular document requested for display, the modular document comprising a plurality of modules, wherein at least one format module is inter-related with at least one text module; locating a set of modules for conversion; converting the modular document into a converted file format by the conversion server for display according to the user preferences; and transmitting the converted file format to the wireless communication device for display thereon.

System and method for rapid document conversion

A system and method for providing e-mail messages to a user in a more efficient manner. Specifically, the system and method of the present invention enable attachments to be downloaded separately from the text-part of the e-mail message, which requires less bandwidth to download. Instead, these attachments are represented by links in the message which is downloaded to the e-mail client of the user, such that the user can 'click on' or otherwise select a link in order to retrieve the attachment. Preferably, the attachment is downloaded to the computational device of the user in a streamed manner.

A method and a system for converting a document in a streamed manner, for more rapid transmission and display of each part of the document as that part is converted. The system and method are preferred for operation in environments with limited bandwidth and/or display capacity, such as for wireless handheld devices, for example. Such devices cannot easily receive large amounts of data, and also typically have relatively small display screens. Thus, the user is able to quickly receive and display each part of the document after being converted, rather than waiting for the entire document to be converted and then transmitted before any part is displayed. The system and method are particularly useful for modular file formats, such as word processing document file formats, in which each module of a file can only be fully interpreted with regard to at least one other module.

A system and method for a virtual mailbox, in which a user e-mail identity, such as an e-mail address for example, is decoupled from any specific e-mail account, or optionally from any specific action required to authorize the user of the e-mail address to access messages on the server, for example to send or receive messages.

A method and a system for transmitting e-mail messages to, and displaying the contents of such messages by, a low bandwidth device, such as a wireless communication device for example.
