A method for communication includes simultaneously transmitting over a wireless network from a first station to a second station at least first and second request-to-send (RTS) frames in different, respective first and second frequency channels. The first station receives first and second clear-to-send (CTS) frames transmitted in the first and second frequency channels, respectively, by the second station over the wireless network in response to the first and second RTS frames. At least one property associated with the first station is estimated by processing information extracted from both the first and second received CTS frames.

Anonymous collection of broadband directional transmissions

A method for communication includes detecting, at a first station in a wireless network, a beacon transmitted over the wireless network by a second station having multiple antennas. In response to the beacon, a request-to-send (RTS) frame is transmitted over the wireless network using a multi-carrier modulation scheme from the first station to the second station. The first station receives a clear-to-send (CTS) frame transmitted over the wireless network, in response to the RTS frame, by the second station via the multiple antennas using the multi-carrier modulation scheme, and estimates a property of the first station based on the received CTS frame.

Anonymous collection of directional transmissions

A method for signal processing includes receiving via first and second antennas () respective first and second input signals in response to an output signal that is transmitted from a wireless transmitter () and encodes a predefined sequence of symbols. A temporal correlation function is computed over the first and second input signals with respect to one or more of the symbols in the predefined sequence so as to identify respective first and second correlation peaks and extract respective first and second carrier phases of the first and second input signals at the first and second correlation peaks. A phase difference between the first and second signals is measured based on a difference between the first and second carrier phases extracted at the first and second correlation peaks. Based on the measured phase difference, an angle of arrival of the output signal from the wireless transmitter is estimated. There is additionally provided, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention, a method for location finding, which includes receiving radio signals transmitted between a plurality of fixed transceivers having multiple antennas at different, respective first locations and a mobile transceiver at a second location. A respective phase difference is detected between the received radio signals that are associated with each of the multiple antennas of each of the fixed transceivers. Multiple loci are computed, corresponding respectively to respective angles between each of the fixed transceivers and the mobile transceiver based on the respective phase differences. Location coordinates of the mobile transceiver are found based on the angles and the transmit locations of the transmitters by identifying an intersection of the loci as the second location of the mobile transceiver.

Interferometric location sensing

A method for communication includes identifying a media access control (MAC) address of a mobile station of interest. Independently of receiving any probe request frame from the mobile station, a probe response frame addressed to the identified MAC address is transmitted over a wireless local area network (WLAN). An acknowledgment of the probe response frame is received from the mobile station and is used in ascertaining a location of the mobile station.

Rapid detection of mobile station locations using Wi-Fi

An apparatus for generating a mosaic for a wireless communication system. The apparatus includes memory and a server. The server is programmed to receive first information from an associated access point that is indicative of a first receiver time stamp and a second receiver time stamp. The server is further programmed to determine a first difference between the first receiver time stamp and the second receiver time stamp to generate a first difference value and to receive second information that is indicative of a third receiver time stamp and a fourth receiver time stamp. The server is further programmed to determine a second difference and to generate a second difference value. The server is further programmed to determine that packets as transmitted by the mobile device are the same based on the first difference value and the second difference value being within a predetermined receiver time error range.

System and method for distributed sensor system for object locationing

A method for location finding includes detecting a respective phase difference between the received radio signals that are associated with each of the multiple antennas of each of the fixed transceivers. One or more respective angles are computed between each of the fixed transceivers and the mobile transceiver based on the respective phase differences. Location coordinates of the mobile transceiver are found based on the angles and the transmit locations of the transmitters.

In at least one embodiment, a system for wireless communication is provided. The system includes a first transceiver and a first mobile device. The first mobile device includes the first transceiver and is programmed to receive a first wireless signal and a second wireless signal and to process the first wireless signal and the second wireless signal based on a first internal clock associated with the first mobile device. The first mobile device is further programmed to determine a time of arrival (TOA) of the first wireless signal to provide a first TOA signal and to determine the TOA of the second wireless signal to provide a second TOA signal. The first mobile device is further programmed to obtain a difference between the first TOA signal and the second TOA signal to provide a first difference TOA signal that is independent of the first internal clock.

A method for communication includes detecting, at a first station in a wireless network, a beacon transmitted over the wireless network by a second station having multiple antennas. In response to the beacon, a request-to-send (RTS) frame is transmitted over the wireless network using a multi-carrier modulation scheme from the first station to the second station. The first station receives a clear-to-send (CTS) frame transmitted over the wireless network, in response to the RTS frame, by the second station via the multiple antennas using the multi-carrier modulation scheme, and estimates an angle of transmission from the second station to the first station based on the received CTS frame.

In at least one embodiment, an apparatus for wireless communication is provided. The apparatus includes a transceiver, a dedicated modem, a frequency converter, at least one controller and a bus. The transceiver receives a first wireless signal associated with a first predefined wireless communication standard and a second wireless signal associated with a second predefined wireless communication standard. The dedicated modem is capable of processing the first wireless signal. The frequency converter down converts a second frequency of the second wireless signal. The controller receives data on the second wireless signal and processes the data on the second wireless signal. The bus is configured to divert the data from the second wireless signal from being received at the dedicated modem by directly transmitting the data from the second wireless signal to memory. The controller is further programmed to access the memory for processing the data on the second wireless signal.

System, apparatus, and method for providing wireless communication and a location tag

In at least one embodiment, a system for providing locationing multipath mitigation for wireless communication is provided. The system includes a receiver having at least one controller. The at least one controller is programmed to; receive a first narrowband wireless signal including a predetermined symbol from a transmitter across a wideband transmission channel that exhibits a multipath condition and additive noise, the first narrowband wireless signal being convoluted with the wideband channel to form a first received signal and to perform autocorrelation on the first received signal to extract the predetermined symbol. The at least one controller is further configured to filter the extracted predetermined symbol to deconvolve the first received signal to minimize the effects of the multipath condition and the additive noise to provide a first deconvoluted signal.

Apparatus, system and method for providing locationing multipath mitigation

A method for signal processing includes receiving at a given location at least first and second signals transmitted respectively from at least first and second antennas () of a wireless transmitter (). The at least first and second signals encode identical data using a multi-carrier encoding scheme with a predefined cyclic delay between the transmitted signals. The received first and second signals are processed, using the cyclic delay, in order to derive a measure of a phase delay between the first and second signals. Based on the measure of the phase delay, an angle of departure (&#x3b8;) of the first and second signals from the wireless transmitter to the given location is estimated.

Identifying angle of departure of multi-antenna transmitters

A method for signal processing includes receiving at a given location at least first and second signals transmitted respectively from at least first and second antennas of a wireless transmitter. The at least first and second signals encode identical data using a multi-carrier encoding scheme with a predefined cyclic delay between the transmitted signals. The received first and second signals are processed, using the cyclic delay, in order to derive a measure of a phase delay between the first and second signals. Based on the measure of the phase delay, an angle of departure of the first and second signals from the wireless access point to the given location is estimated.

Some embodiments provide a system that includes an Internet Protocol (IP) address distribution device and an access point. The IP address distribution device may be configured to allocate IP addresses for a set of devices. The access point may be configured to communicate wirelessly with the set of devices. The IP address distribution device may be is further configured to receive IP address request messages from the set of devices via the access point. The IP address request messages may be for requesting IP addresses from the IP address distribution device. The IP address distribution device may be further configured to send IP address response messages that include IP addresses for the set of devices to the set of devices via the access point using unicast messaging.

A method for communication includes arranging multiple access points in a wireless local area network (WLAN) to communicate over the air with a station in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configuration. Transmission quality is measured, in alternation, between two or more of the access points and the station in a plurality of different MIMO states. Each MIMO state is characterized at least by a respective number of spatial streams to be transmitted in the state. Responsively to the measured transmission quality, one of the access points and one of the MIMO states are selected to transmit data to the station.
