In one embodiment, a server-side process operating on a server includes crawling of one or more websites for possible answers to a query and adding the possible answer entities into a data structure of answer entities to queries. The server-side process also includes serving a requested Web page with an added search box that is displayed by a client coupled to the server. As a user types one or more characters at the client, the client sends the characters, portion-by-portion, e.g., character-by-character to the server-side process. In response, the server-side process searches the index for possible answers to the (so-far-typed) query, and provides to the client a list of answers (rather than queries) to be displayed by the client. Each additional character entered may modify the provided list of answers. The client selecting a listed answer navigation directly to the answer.

Autocomplete search methods

An exemplary system and method for providing a map of an enterprise system is provided. The method comprises accessing data describing an element from one or more sources. One or more objects are associated with the element. At least one relationship is identified between the one or more objects. A map is then generated of an enterprise system comprised of the one or more objects based on the at least one identified relationship.

Systems and methods for providing a map of an enterprise system

A computer implemented method, and a software product for directing a search aided by a set of topics, the topics not necessarily having a hierarchy. Each topic is attached to at least one information item of a plurality of information items, such as a Web page identified by a URL. The method includes identifying one or more information items of the plurality of information items, and determining one or more suggested topics from the set of topics according to the attachments of the suggested topics to the identified information items, and providing search results to the user including at least some of the identified information items and at least one of the suggested topics. Selecting one of the suggested topics generates a new set of suggested topics, such that a hierarchy of topics is formed on the fly for a particular search.

User interface for conducting a search directed by a hierarchy-free set of topics

A method and a carrier medium carrying computer code to execute a method. The method includes defining a set of topics for attachment to one or more information items by at least one user (a registered searcher), the defining the topics including accepting from at least one user at least one topic, and adding the topic to the plurality of topics. The topics do not necessarily have a hierarchical structure. Each topic is for attachment to one or more information item. The attached topics are for searching by a particular searcher for information item(s) according to search request information, including at least one topic of the set of topics, the searching including identifying at least one information item that has attachment to the topic(s) of the search request information. The method further includes defining a collection of attachments that can be viewed and searched by a corresponding group of at least one user, the corresponding group defined for the collection. Each attachment in the collection being between a topic and one or more information items.

Creating and sharing collections of links for conducting a search directed by a hierarchy-free set of topics, and a user interface therefor

A computer implemented method, and a carrier medium carrying computer code to implement the method to generate a customized 'link collection' of topics and items attached to the topics related to a subject of interest to a group of people. The link collection includes items of information, provided, in one embodiment, in the form of URLs. A member of the link collection requires only a computer connected to a server system via a network such as the Internet. In one embodiment, access to the link collection is provided by a Web browser application running on the computer. The collection of attachments can be viewed and searched by a corresponding group of at least one user. The topics do not necessarily have a hierarchy, and a dynamic hierarchy may be defined in the process of a multi-step search.

Authoring and managing personalized searchable link collections

A method and apparatus to control any one of a plurality of devices. The method comprises, for each device of the plurality, receiving a definition language. The definition language including a command description to be associated with the device. The method further comprises accepting input from a user. The method further comprises generating one or more control signals for at least one of the devices of the plurality. The generating is to control the at least one of the devices according to the accepted input. The generating uses the definition language and the accepted input.
