Multi-layered, shielded and grounded cables and related methods

A connector for use in a free-standing connector port for mating with an external pluggable module is disclosed. The connector has terminals that extend lengthwise of the connector so that cables may be terminated to the terminals and the terminals and cable generally are horizontally aligned together. The connector defines a card-receiving slot and is position in a cage that defines the connector port. The cables exit from the rear of the connector and from the connector port. The connector includes a heat sink that is configured to cool a module inserted into the connector port.

Circuit board bypass assemblies and components therefor

A connector for use in a free-standing connector port for mating with an external pluggable module is disclosed. The connector has terminals that extend lengthwise of the connector so that cables may be terminated to the terminals and the terminals and cable generally are horizontally aligned together. The connector defines a card-receiving slot and is position in a cage that defines the connector port. The cables exit from the rear of the connector and from the connector port.

A cable bypass assembly is disclosed for use in providing a high speed transmission line for connecting aboard mountedconnector of an electronic device to a chip on the device board. The bypass cable assembly has a structure that permits it, where it is terminated to theboard mountedconnector and the chip member, or closely proximate thereto. to replicate closely the geometry of the cable. The connector terminals are arranged in alignment with the cable signal conductors and shield extensions are provided so that shielding can be provided up to and over the termination between the cable signal conductors and the board connector terminal tails. Likewise, a similar termination structure is provided at the opposite end of the cable where a pair of terminals are supported by a second connector body and enclosed in a shield collar. The shield collar has an extension that engages the second end of the cable, to allow signals to be transmitted at greater than 10 GHz with substantially lower loss than a traditional FR4 circuit board.

High speed bypass cable assembly

A wire to board connector is provided for connecting cables of cable bypass assemblies to circuitry mounted on a circuit board. The connector has a structure that maintains the geometry of the cable through the connector. The connector includes a pair of edge coupled conductive signal terminals and a ground shield to which the signal terminals are broadside coupled. The connector includes a pair of ground terminals aligned with the signal terminals and both sets of terminals have J-shaped contact portions that flex linearly when the connector is inserted into a receptacle. In another embodiment, the signal terminal contact portions are supported by a compliant member that may deflect when the connectors engage contact pads on a substrate.

Wire to board connectors suitable for use in bypass routing assemblies

A connector for use in a free-standing connector port for mating with an external pluggable module is disclosed. The connector has terminals that extend lengthwise of the connector so that cables may be terminated to the terminals and the terminals and cable generally are horizontally aligned together. The connector includes a housing and a pair of connecting elements that flank a card-receiving slot of the connector. The cables exit from the rear of the connector elements and from the connector port. The connector elements engage the connector port to fix the connector in place within the connector port.

A cable bypass assembly is disclosed for use in providing a high speed transmission line for connecting a board mounted connector of an electronic device to a chip on the device board. The bypass cable assembly has a structure that permits it, where it is terminated to the board mounted connector and the chip member, or closely proximate thereto to replicate closely the geometry of the cable. The connector terminals are arranged in alignment with the cable signal conductors and shield extensions are provided so that shielding can be provided up to and over the termination between the cable signal conductors and the board connector terminal tails. Likewise, a similar termination structure is provided at the opposite end of the cable where a pair of terminals are supported by a second connector body and enclosed in a shield collar. The shield collar has an extension that engages the second end of the cable.

An improved shielding cage assembly that utilizes air guides is disclosed. The shielding cage has a hollow interior configured to receive an electronic module therein which generates heat during operation. An air guide member is provided that defines an entry for surrounding air to enter the shielding cage interior and circulate around the electronic module. A thermal transfer member is provided that defines at least one exit passage for the air in the interior of the shielding cage to exit.

Heat dissipative air guide

A receptacle assembly includes a hollow conductive cage with a front end and an opening to an interior portion of the cage. The opening is configured to receive a module assembly therein. The cage has a bottom with a bottom opening communicating with the interior portion, and the bottom is configured to be joined to a circuit board. A layered EMI shield member is provided between the bottom of the cage and the circuit board and the shield member extends completely around the bottom opening of the cage. The EMI shield member is formed as a flexible, low-cost assembly that utilizes a pair or insulative layers that flank a conductive layer.
