Security systems for microelectronic devices physically lock the hardware itself and serve as a first line of defense by preventing overwriting, modification, manipulation or erasure of data stored in a device's memory. Implementations of the security systems can respond to lock/unlock commands that do not require signal or software interactivity with the functionality of the protected device, and which therefore may be consistent across devices.

Security systems for microelectronic devices physically lock the hardware itself and serve as a first line of defense by preventing overwriting, modification, maniplation or erasure of data stored in a device's memory. Implementations of the security systems can respond to lock/unlock commands that do not require signal or software interactivity with the functionality of the protected device, and which therefore may be consistent across devices. In various embodiments, a security device passively 'listens' on data lines of the protected device and, when a lock or unlock command is received (typically in conjunction with a valid authentication code), the security device physically blocks or allows passage of signals to and from the protected device.

Illumination apparatus confining light by total internal reflection and methods of forming the same

In accordance with various embodiments of the present invention, mechanical systems incorporating movable microelectromechanical (MEMS)-based features, e.g., cantilevers or suspended micron- and submicron-scale beams are utilized to secure solid-state devices such as controllers, microcontrollers, central processing units (CPUs), solid-state storage drives, and memory cards. In various embodiments of the invention, the beams are double-clamped, initially curved (or 'pre-buckled') segments that are provided within the solid-state device (e.g., on the top layer thereof) prior to encapsulation and packaging of the device.

Security system for solid-state electronics

In various embodiments, an illumination apparatus includes a substantially planar waveguide, a plurality of light sources embedded within the in-coupling region of the waveguide, and a film disposed over the out-coupling region of the waveguide. The film has a thickness less than approximately 100 &#x3bc;m and comprises or consists essentially of a photoluminescent material. The photoluminescent material converts a portion of light emitted by at least one of the light sources to a different wavelength. A surface of the out-coupling region has an average reflectivity of greater than approximately 90%. Light emitted by the light sources mixes with light converted by the photoluminescent material to form substantially white light, and the conversion efficiency of the illumination apparatus is greater than approximately 70%.

Illumination apparatus with high conversion efficiency and methods of forming the same

An illumination apparatus, comprising at least one light emitting source embedded in a waveguide material is disclosed. The waveguide material is capable of propagating light generated by light emitting source(s), such that at least a portion of the light is diffused within the waveguide material and exits through at least a portion of its surface.

Illumination apparatus

An illumination system in accordance with an embodiment hereof includes a plurality of LED units, a system controller, at least one sensing unit, and a plurality of local controllers each associated with at least one LED unit. Each LED unit includes a plurality of differently colored, independently controllable LEDs forming a color gamut. The system controller generates control signals for each of the LED units consistent with a desired system-level output. The sensing unit(s) senses an operating state of the LEDs during operation thereof, and each local controller includes a memory and a compensator. The memory includes calibration data for use over a short time period, and the compensator updates the calibration data based on measurements from a sensing unit over a long time period. Based at least in part on the calibration data, the local controller operates the LEDs of the LED unit to maintain output intensities consistent with commands issued by the system controller.

Independently controllable illumination device

In one aspect, an illumination apparatus includes a waveguide, embedded in which are a light-emitting source and a photoluminescent material. Output light is emitted from at least a portion of a first surface of the waveguide. The photoluminescent material includes nano-size phosphor particles and/or quantum dots.
