An electronic device that provides modified electrical signals is described. An interface circuit in the electronic device may provide electrical signals for an antenna module, which may be coupled to the interface circuit by a cable, and the electrical signals may correspond to or may specify an output transmit-power level at the interface circuit. Then, the interface circuit may receive feedback about an input transmit-power level at the antenna module. Based on the feedback, a data rate and/or a modulation and coding scheme, the interface circuit may provide the modified electrical signals for the antenna module, where the modified electrical signals correspond to a modified output transmit-power level at the interface circuit. In some embodiments, the feedback is provided by repurposing, during a different operating mode, signal lines that otherwise specify an antenna pattern.

Antenna-parameter control in a distributed system

A system for detecting the surrounding environment of vehicle comprising a RADAR unit and at least one ultra-lowphase-noise frequency synthesizer, is provided. A RADAR unit configured for detecting the presence and characteristics of one or more objects in various directions. The RADAR unit may include a transmitter for transmitting at least one radio signal, and a receiver for receiving the at least one radio signalreturned from the one or more objects. The ultra-lowphase-noisefrequency synthesizer may utilize a dual loop design comprising one main PLL and one sampling PLL, where the main PLL might include a DDS or Fractional-N PLL plus a variable divider, or the synthesizer may utilize a sampling PLL only, to reduce phase-noise from the returned radio signal. This system enhances the detection of the exact location of the vehicle based on the received RADAR signatures of objects, azimuth and distance.

A method and apparatus are disclosed for controlling the power consumption of a power amplifier included in a communication device. For at least some embodiments, the power consumption may be controlled by determining an order for the data packets to be transmitted, selecting a coding scheme used to encode the data packets, and/or determining an output power level of the power amplifier. The data packet transmission order, the coding scheme, and/or the output power level may be determined, at least in part, by the temperature of the power amplifier, a quality of service associated with the data packets, a data packet length, and/or a link budget. Adjustments to the data packet transmission order, the coding scheme, and/or the output power level may be made dynamically for each data packet.
