A method of using an earbud to maintain a user's authenticated session comprises, after establishing a user's first authenticated session in a first computing device, broadcasting an initial ultrasonic signal from a speaker of the earbud. At least a subsequent ultrasonic echo signal that is received at an in-ear microphone of the earbud is analyzed to determine if the earbud is located in an ear of the user. The method determines that the earbud is within a predetermined distance of the second computing device. At least on condition of determining that the earbud is located in the ear of the user and that the earbud is within the predetermined distance of the second computing device, a user's second authenticated session in a second computing device is established.

Examples are disclosed that relate to mitigating unintended OLED display emissions arising from a proximity sensor emitter located behind an OLED display panel. One example provides a display device comprising an OLED display panel, a proximity sensor having a proximity sensor emitter positioned behind one or more OLED pixels of the OLED display panel with respect to a viewing surface of the OLED display panel, and a proximity emitter mask positioned between the proximity sensor emitter and the one or more OLED pixels to shield the one or more OLED pixels from the proximity sensor emitter.

Methods, systems, and computer program products are provided for field repair recalibration. A field repairable device with a field repairable component (e.g., field replaceable unit (FRU)) is recalibrated in the field. A light sensor dependent on one or more optical layers in a display module is recalibrated in the field based at least in part on the properties of a post-repair FRU that replaced a damaged/inoperable pre-repair FRU. A field recalibrator (e.g., in a field repairable device and/or in a field repair device) may be configured to generate an in-field recalibration of a sensor based at least in part on a pre-repair sample generated by the sensor before repair of a field repairable component and a post-repair sample generated by the sensor after repair of the field repairable component.

A method for electronic accessory pairing includes capturing an image of an external environment via a camera communicatively coupled to a host computing device. The image of the external environment is analyzed to detect presence of an imaged electronic accessory. After determining that the host computing device is not presently paired with the imaged electronic accessory, a pairing is established between the host computing device and the imaged electronic accessory.

The disclosure herein describes changing a mode of operation of a computing device using signals from a pen device. The pen device obtains gesture input data from at least one sensor of the pen device and the obtained gesture input data is compared to at least one gesture pattern. Based on the gesture input data matching the at least one gesture pattern, the pen device transitions to an active state. The pen device detects, via an electrostatic communication channel, an uplink signal from the computing device and sends a signal to change a mode of operation of the computing device by at least one of a network interface or a communication channel, other than the electrostatic communication channel. Changing modes of operation of a computing device provides a flexible, stream-lined way to enhance the user experience of using a computing device with a pen device (e.g., performing an initial pairing process).

One example provides a computing device comprising a touch sensor, a camera, a logic subsystem, and a storage subsystem. The storage subsystem comprises instructions executable by the logic subsystem to receive image data from the camera; determine, based on the image data, information regarding one or more of a hand of a user or a stylus held by the user; and based at least on the information regarding one or more of the hand of the user or the stylus held by the user, control operation of the touch sensor.

An electronic device detects a user presence in a first distance range from a user detection sensor of an electronic device. The electronic device communicates with multiple input components, setting the electronic device to a first device state based on detecting a user presence in the first distance range. The first device state applies a scanning rate to a first input component. The electronic device also detects a user presence in a second distance range from the user detection sensor of the electronic device while the electronic device is in the first device state. The electronic device sets the electronic device to a second device state, based on detecting a user presence in the second distance range while the electronic device is in the first device state. The second device state applies a different scanning rate to the first input component than in the first device state.

One example provides a method enacted on a display device comprising an organic light emitting diode (OLED) display panel and a light sensor positioned behind the OLED display panel with respect to a viewing surface of the OLED display panel. The method comprises receiving data samples from the light sensor and determining a temporal location for each of one or more non-emissive states of the OLED display panel. The method further comprises determining an ambient light characteristic using one or more data samples acquired during the one or more non-emissive states of the OLED display panel and adjusting an emission characteristic of the OLED display panel based at least in part on the ambient light characteristic determined.

The disclosure herein describes causing a computing device to transition from a low power state using a pen device. The pen device obtains gesture input data from at least one sensor of the pen device and the obtained gesture input data is compared to at least one gesture pattern. Based on the gesture input data matching the at least one gesture pattern, the pen device generates a wakeup event message. The pen device transmits the wakeup event message to the computing device using a communication protocol that the computing device is configured to receive in the low power state. The described power state transition method provides a flexible, customizable way for users to wake up computing devices using the pen device.

In various examples there is a capacitance measurement circuit for measuring capacitance of an electrode. The circuit comprises a charging/discharging circuit part which charges the electrode or discharges the electrode, and a counter which measures a charging measurement being a time taken by the charging/discharging circuit part to charge the electrode between two charging thresholds, and which measures a discharging measurement being a time taken by the charging/discharging circuit part to discharge the electrode between two discharging thresholds. The circuit has a controller configured to control the charging/discharging circuit part and the counter such that a plurality of discharging measurements are obtained and a plurality of charging measurements are obtained. The circuit has an averaging logic which computes the measured capacitance in relation to an average of the measurements. In this way high frequency and low frequency noise is attenuated and fine resolution, high accuracy capacitance measurements are obtained.

A display device includes a display controller and a timing controller to drive frames at a frame rate onto a display. The display device may include sensor circuitry to detect a signal from a pen. The signal from the pen includes a sync signal indicative of a repetition rate of the signal. In one embodiment, the sync signal and the display timer are asynchronous. The sensor circuitry is configured to sense the signal from the pen during sensing windows, where timing of the sensing windows is based on the repetition rate. In one embodiment, the display controller is configured to pause driving a frame onto the display during the sensing windows.
