A method for managing a sphere of wireless tags, the method comprises programming, by a wireless reader, a group of wireless tags to belong to the sphere of wireless tags; sending by the wireless reader sphere beacons aimed to the wireless tags of the sphere; detecting a loss of a wireless tag of the sphere if the wireless tag did not respond to a predetermined number of sphere beacons; and responding to the detecting of the loss of the wireless tag.

Managing a sphere of wireless tags

Described is a control unit including a recognition result receiver able to receive a recognition result, a recognition result association unit having associations of results with recognition engines, and a recognition engine activator able to activate the recognition engine associated with the recognition result. Also described is a device including a microphone, an analog to digital converter able to convert input received by the microphone, a first speech recognition engine adapted to perform a first type of recognition on an output of the analog to digital converter, and a second recognition engine adapted to perform a second type of recognition on the output.

Handwriting data input device with multiple character sets

A points based handwriting recognition system is suitable for hand held processor implemented devices with small touch pad writing surfaces. The writing surface is divided into a grid by a number of spaced discrete points. The user is instructed to write, as by a stylus, characters such as letters, numbers or symbols with the writing path extending through a predetermined sequence of the points which define the grid. The stylus must pass sequentially within a specified distance of mandatory points for processor recognition of each written character and may additionally pass within a predetermined distance of optional points.

Points based handwriting recognition system

A handwritten pattern and stroke recognition system recognizes an input pattern by comparing it to reference patterns. The input and reference patterns comprise at least one stroke, where a stroke is defined as the series of sample points from pen-down to pen-up. The system of the present invention compares the input and reference patterns stroke by stroke and thus, compares input strokes to reference strokes. The system includes a tangent and stable point extractor, a reference database and a stable-point-based classifier. The extracter determines tangents to at least some of the sample points of the input stroke and determines, which of the sample points between a beginning and end of the input stroke are stable points. The reference database stores tangents of sample points of the reference strokes and stable points of the reference strokes. The stable-point-based classifier divides each input stroke and each reference stroke into at least two substrokes wherein each substroke has at least one of the stable points at an end thereof. The classifier also generates stroke match values indicating the quality of the match between the input stroke and the reference strokes based on the comparison of substrokes of the input stroke with corresponding substrokes of the reference strokes. The classifier selects the reference stroke providing the best match to the input stroke in accordance with a matching criterion. Finally, the classifier selects the reference pattern whose strokes best match the strokes of the input pattern.

Handwriting recognition system using substroke analysis

A method for pattern recognition of indicia composed of alphabetical characters of a language in the form of at least a part of a word. The shape of each character in a word is established by means of a pattern shape recognizer. A probability value designating the relative confidence in the recognition of the character as one of the language characters is assigned to each character. The established shapes of the characters are then sequentially applied to a linguistic recognizer for further processing and the probability values of language structure to each of the language characters is assigned. Then the probability values assigned to the characters in the shape recognizer is combined with the corresponding probability values assigned to the characters in the linguistic recognizer and the path between characters possessing the highest probability values is determined.
