Systems and methods for automatic level control (ALC) are provided. In one embodiment, an ALC system for communications signals comprises: a multi-threshold programmable ALC controller; and at least one signal path that includes: a digital step attenuator configured to receive an analog communications signal and attenuate the analog communications signal in response to an attenuation adjustment signal from the ALC controller; and an analog-to-digital converter configured to receive the analog communications signal as attenuated by the digital step attenuator and generate samples of the attenuated analog communications signal, wherein the ALC controller receives the samples. The ALC controller comprises a plurality of clip detectors that function in parallel. Each of the clip detectors are programmed with a respective amplitude and time threshold. Based on which of the plurality of clip detectors determine that the samples exceed their respective amplitude and time threshold, the ALC controller generates the attenuation adjustment signal.

Systems and methods for automatic level control

Systems and methods for automatic level control (ALC) are provided. In one embodiment, a system comprises a multi-threshold programmable ALC controller; and at least one signal path that includes: a digital step attenuator to receive an analog communications signal and attenuate the communications signal in response to an attenuation adjustment signal from the ALC controller; and an analog-to-digital converter configured to receive the communications signal as attenuated by the digital step attenuator, wherein the ALC controller receives complex IQ samples of the attenuated communication signal; wherein the ALC controller comprises a plurality of clip detectors that function in parallel, wherein each of the clip detectors are programmed with a respective amplitude and time threshold, wherein based on which of the plurality of clip detectors determine that the complex IQ samples exceed their respective amplitude and time threshold, the ALC controller generates the attenuation adjustment signal to the digital step attenuator.

A method includes: receiving MIMO channel signals at original MIMO frequency from signal source(s) at master unit of DAS, set(s) of the MIMO channel signals including first MIMO channel signal and second MIMO channel signal; generating local oscillator signal at master unit; frequency converting first MIMO channel signal(s) and second MIMO channel signal(s) from original MIMO frequency to different frequency different from first legacy service frequency band using local oscillator signal at master unit; combining first MIMO channel signal, second MIMO channel signal, and local oscillator signal into combined signal at master unit; transmitting combined signal across optical link to remote unit; processing first MIMO channel signal and/or second MIMO channel signal at remote unit; and frequency converting converted MIMO channel signal(s) from different frequency different from first legacy service frequency band back to original MIMO frequency for transmission over antenna(s).

Distributed antenna system for MIMO signals

Certain aspects involve an interface device for a distributed antenna system ('DAS'). In some aspects, the interface device can include an interface, a power detector, and a processor. The interface can include one or more ports for communicatively coupling the interface device to a base station and a switch that is switchable between first and second configurations. The first configuration connects a port to a downlink path of the DAS, and the second configuration connects the port to a signal reflection path. The processor can switch the switch between the first and second configurations based on a signal power measured by the power detector at the port. In other aspects, the interface device can include additional ports and termination loads. The processor can cause a signal path to be connected to a termination load instead of a port based on the port being disconnected from a unit of the DAS.

A distributed antenna system, comprising: master unit configured to: receive MIMO channel signals at MIMO frequency from signal source, MIMO channel signals including first and second MIMO channel signals; generate LO signal; frequency convert first and/or second MIMO channel signal from MIMO frequency to different frequency close to first legacy service frequency band using the LO signal; combine first MIMO channel signal, second MIMO channel signal, and LO signal for transmission; optical link operably coupled with master unit; unit communicatively coupled with master unit via optical link for transceiving first second MIMO channel signal, unit including band processing circuitry configured to process first and second MIMO channel signal; conversion circuitry configured to receive converted MIMO channel signal and to frequency convert converted MIMO channel signal from frequency close to first legacy service frequency band back to MIMO frequency for transmission over antenna.

A distributed antenna system includes a master unit configured to receive at least one set of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel signals from at least one signal source. The master unit is configured to frequency convert at least one of the MIMO channel signals to a different frequency from an original frequency, and combine the MIMO channel signals for transmission. An optical link couples the master unit with a unit remote from the master unit for transceiving the MIMO channel signals. Conversion circuitry is configured to frequency convert at least one of the first and second MIMO channel signals from the different frequency back to an original frequency for transmission over an antenna.

A distributed antenna system includes a master unit configured to receive at least one set of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel signals from at least one signal source. The master unit is configured to frequency convert at least one of the MIMO channel signals to a different frequency from an original frequency, and combine the MIMO channel signals for transmission. An optical link couples the master unit with a remote for transceiving the MIMO channel signals. The remote unit is configured to receive the MIMO channel signals to be transmitted over antennas and includes an extension port configured to transceive at least one of the MIMO channel signals. An extension unit is coupled to the remote unit and is configured to frequency convert at least one of the first and second MIMO channel signals from the different frequency back to an original frequency for transmission over an antenna.
