The printing device is ink jet, parallel or serial-parallel type and comprises a plurality of ejection modules each of which with ejection chambers suitable for containing ink and with associated relative heating elements for ink ejection control. The device includes a support and a nozzle plate common to the modules, and in which the support includes a base plate of rigid material that defines through its thickness a feeding duct for the ink which, in use, is substantially parallel to the line of printing (X axis) and the ejection modules are fixed side by side on the base plate and with the ejection chambers arranged in a line in the same direction (X axis), is a hydraulic, tight connection with the feeding duct. The nozzle plate is fixed on the ejection modules constituting an upper, hydraulically tight, closing surface, for the chambers and comprises a plurality of ejection nozzles in a line, in turn in hydraulic connection with corresponding cells of the modules.

Parallel ink jet printing device and relative manufacturing

The present invention provides a process for manufacturing an ink-jet printhead comprising the steps of providing a print head wafer comprising a plurality of print head dice, each print head die comprising a nozzle plate bonded to a barrier layer formed on a substrate, wherein said plurality of print head dice are arranged on the substrate so as to define at least one first dividing channel comprising at least one first channel portion, said at least one first channel portion having a bottom portion comprised between the lateral sides of said barrier layer of at least two adjacent print head dice and an upper portion comprised between the lateral sides of said nozzle plate of said at least two adjacent print head dice, and applying an adhesive composition in an amount able to substantially fill the whole length of said at least one first channel portion.

Ink-jet printhead and manufacturing method thereof

The composite printhead () is made up of an active module (), consisting of a thin plate () of silicon, on which a plurality of chambers () is produced, housing corresponding heating resistors (), electrically connected through an interconnection network to corresponding external contact pads (), and of a support element () for the active module, in turn consisting of a portion of plate () of a rigid, insulating material, provided with an elongated slot shape, ink feeding duct (), traversing the thickness of the support element (). The active module () is built separately from the support element () and later mounted integrally upon the support element (). Also mounted later to the support () is a frame () surrounding the active module () to provide hydraulic sealing. Finally the module () and the frame () are covered with a metallic or resin lamina (), bearing an array of nozzles () aligned with and facing the ejection chambers ().

Composite ink jet printhead and relative manufacturing process

A substrate () for an ink jet printhead comprising: at least three slots () of elongated shape, oriented parallel to one another lengthwise in a vertical direction (); three corresponding actuating banks (); a plurality of drive circuits (); and a plurality of terminals (), lesser in number than the ejection actuators (), connected to the drive circuits () for receiving external signals, wherein at least two () of the three slots are arranged side by side along the respective long edges in an upper portion () of the substrate, and the third slot () is arranged in a lower portion () of the substrate, and wherein moreover the terminals () connected to the drive circuits are arranged in a line along the edges () of the substrate () parallel to the slots and therefore to this given vertical direction (). This substrate has a robust structure and is less likely to crack in the zone of the slots.

An ink jet printhead optimally utilizes the surface area of the upper face of a silicon die, even in the case of a non-monochromatic head having plural ink tanks. For each tank of ink, the ink includes one pass-through slot that departs from the lower face of the silicon die and terminates in a wider trench in the upper face. The pass-through slot is made using a chemical etching type incision technique known as &ldquo;inductively coupled plasma&rdquo; (ICP), thus maximizing the distance between the different ink tanks and, simultaneously, minimizing the distance between the different groups of nozzles on the upper face of the die. Accordingly, the risk of the silicon substrate breaking during any of the various stages of manufacture is considerably reduced.

Ink jet printhead

An ink-jet print head (12) for a dot printer, in which the drops of ink are expelled from one or more expulsion chambers (16) through corresponding pluralities of nozzles (30), each plurality communicating with each individual chamber. The nozzles (30) communicating with each chamber may be three to nine in number and are suitably arranged so as to obtain a high print quality in particular for the printing of characters with straight edges free from irregularities.
