A method for configuring a re-configurable radio terminal through a communication network operating according to a communication system, wherein the radio terminal is configured for exchanging information with at least one node of the communication network by using the communicating system. The method is characterized by the steps of associating with the one node of the communication network a server entity configured for using a protocol layer of the communication system and including a set of operating software modules for configuring the radio terminal with at least one set of elements of protocol stack suitable to reconfigure the radio terminal; associating with the radio terminal a client entity configured for using a respective protocol layer corresponding to the protocol layer of the server entity, establishing an over-the-air connection between the radio terminal and the server entity by using the protocol layer, and downloading at least one module of the set of operating software modules from the server to the radio terminal configuring at least in part the radio terminal.

Method for configuring a radio terminal through a radio communication network, related network and computer program product therefor

A method for enabling connection of a mobile communication terminal to a radio communication network, comprising broadcasting through a geographic area information about available radio access networks available in the geographic area, the information being intended to be used by the mobile communication terminal for determining which radio access networks cover a current mobile communication terminal location within the geographic area. The information includes an identifier of at least one radio access network available in the geographic area, and, associated with the identifier of the at least one radio access network, data adapted to determine an extent of coverage of the geographic area by that radio access network.

Method and system for enabling connection of a mobile communication terminal to a radio communication network

The present invention relates to a radio telephony network supporting at least one link of a radio channel for a packet data transmission service. The radio telephony network comprises a plurality of network controllers (RNC). Each network controller (RNC) is connected, via an interface I, to at least one base radio station (B-node) supervising at least one macrocell. The radio telephony network additionally comprises at least one base radio microstation (B1-micronode) connected to the network controller (RNC) via an interface Iof the same type as that connecting the base radio station (B-node) to said controller. The base radio microstation (B1-micronode) supervises at least one microcell incorporated in at least one macrocell. The base radio microstation (B1-micronode) provides the packet data transmission service in the microcell on the link of the radio channel, preferably using multicarrier radio access. The multi-carrier radio access is preferably of the OFDM type.

A method for configuring a wireless telecommunications network adapted to operate according to at least one radio system, includes a plurality of re-configurable base radio stations, wherein each base radio station is adapted to manage one or more cells of the telecommunications network, and wherein each cell has corresponding radio resources available. The method includes: obtaining measurements of the cells load status; dynamically configuring at least one of the cells by assigning thereto determined available radio resources depending on the measurements of the cell load status. Dynamically configuring includes: based on the measurements of the cell load status, determining at least one candidate radio resource to be assigned to the cell; prior to assigning the candidate radio resource to the cell, forecasting an impact on the network performance at the radio level potentially caused by the assignment of the candidate radio resource to the cell; and in case the forecasted impact complies with predetermined requirements, assigning the candidate radio resource to the cell.

Method and system for dynamically configuring a telecommunications network

In a telecommunications network that is able to manage cellular radio-mobile systems, base radio stations can be dynamically reconfigured through an exchange of messages from a configuration managing unit of radio resources adapted to be interfaced with many base radio stations and the affected base radio stations for dynamically reducing telecommunications network block conditions.

A method for enabling connection of a mobile communication terminal to a radio communication network, includes: receiving information about available radio access networks available in a geographic area; determining a current location of the mobile communication terminal within the geographic area; based on the received information and the determined mobile communication terminal current location, determining available radio access networks covering the current mobile communication terminal location, and attempting to establish a connection to the radio communication network through a selected one of the available radio access networks. In case the current location of the mobile communication terminal within the geographic area cannot be determined, attempting to establish a direct connection with a neighboring mobile communication terminal over a short-range wireless communication channel; obtaining from the neighboring mobile communication terminal information about available radio access networks; and attempting to establish a connection to the radio communication network through a selected one of the available radio access networks specified in the information obtained from the neighbor mobile communication terminal.

A method of exploiting a signaling message related to a predetermined OSI layer of a wireless communication system and adapted to transmit signaling information specific of the OSI layer for transmitting data different from the signaling information, includes: ascertaining the presence of unallotted space in the signaling message; based on the ascertained presence of unallotted space, determining an amount of transmissible data different from the signaling information; and modifying the signaling message by filling at least part of the unallotted space with the amount of transmissible data. The method is in particular useful in cellular telephony networks like 2G and 3G networks, in 802.1x networks and broadcasting ones such as DVBs.

A radio telephony network supports at least one link of a radio channel for a packet data transmission service. The radio telephony network has a plurality of network controllers. Each network controller is connected, via an interface to at least one base radio station supervising at least one macrocell. The radio telephony network additionally has at least one base radio microstation connected to the network controller via an interface of the same type as that connecting the base radio station to the controller. The base radio microstation supervises at least one microcell incorporated in at least one macrocell. The base radio microstation provides the packet data transmission service in the microcell on the link of the radio channel, preferably using multicarrier radio access. The multi-carrier radio access is preferably of the OFDM type.
