Described herein is an absorbent article. The absorbent article includes an assembly of components and an adhesive composition joining at least two of the assembly of components together. The adhesive composition includes from about 50 wt. % to about 80 wt. % of one or more copolymers and a blend of one or more heterophase copolymers. The one or more copolymers include from about 30 mole % to about 70 mole % of monomer units selected from ethylene. 1-butene, and mixtures thereof. The one or more copolymers also include from about 30 mole % to about 70 mole % of propene monomer units. The adhesive composition is free of polyisobutylene and has a viscosity of from about 2,000 mPa·s to about 11,500 mPa·s at 150° C.

Absorbent article comprising an adhesive composition

Described herein is an adhesive composition including a copolymer. The adhesive composition has a viscosity of from about 2,000 mPa&#xb7;s to about 11,500 mPa&#xb7;s at 150&#xb0; C. The adhesive composition has a Storage Modulus at 37&#xb0; C. of from about 3 MPa to 9.5 MPa. The adhesive composition has a Yield Stress at 37&#xb0; C. of from about 0.8 MPa to about 1.45 MPa.

Adhesive composition for absorbent articles

Described herein is an adhesive composition including (a) from about 70 wt. % to about 90 wt. % of one or more copolymers, and (b) from about 10 wt. % to about 30 wt. % of one or more heterophase copolymers. The one or more copolymers include (i) from about 30 mole % to about 70 mole % of monomer units selected from the group consisting of ethylene, 1-butene, and mixtures thereof; and (ii) from about 30 mole % to about 70 mole % of propene monomer units. A process for reducing unreacted monomers and condensable and non-condensable hydrocarbon fractions in an APAO which includes introducing molten APAO into heated and insulated jacketed pipe while injecting a stripping agent based on the total weight of the contents of the jacketed pipe; maintaining the stripping agent with the molten APAO stream from ten seconds to ten minutes, forming a flowable heated mixture at 250 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit in the heated and jacketed pipe forming a flowing heated mixture; and passing the flowing heated mixture through a thin film evaporator assembly, while maintaining the temperature of the flowing heated mixture, stripping the organoleptic species and acids and volatile organic components from the flowing heated mixture and removing and recovering a condensable fuel fraction and a non-condensable hydrocarbon gas with energy, while simultaneously forming an odor-reduced, cleaned molten APAO-based HMA.

Adding a compatible high melt flow rate (MFR), low melt viscosity, hydrogenated styrene block copolymer to amorphous poly alpha-olefins (APAOs) results in adhesives that show acceptably high elongation and tensile strength, and which, when applied by different hot melt application methods onto elastic strands, result in personal hygiene article components that perform comparably to such components assembled using just styrene block copolymer components formulated with compatible tackifiers, processing oils and other additives.

Performance APAO hot melt adhesives containing high melt flow rate hydrogenated styrene block copolymers

Adding a low molecular weight (or alternatively, high melt flow rate), functionalized, isotactic polypropylene (iPP) to a hot melt adhesive (HMA), composition containing a propylene-butene-1, and/or a propylene-ethylene amorphous poly alpha olefin (APAO) copolymer, in addition to other co-adjuvants (such as a tackifier or a plasticizer), results in an APAO-based HMA that shows improved tensile strength and bonding properties, over an HMA that contains only the propylene-butene-1 and/or the propylene-ethylene APAO copolymer (with or without a tackifier and/or a plasticizer).
