The invention relates to a disposable absorbent incontinence diaper () of the open type, having a main part (), comprising a front region () having front lateral longitudinal edges (), a rear region () having rear lateral longitudinal edges () and a crotch region () that is located in between in the longitudinal direction () and comes to lie between the legs of a user, wherein the main part () comprises an absorbent pad (), and having rear side portions () that are attached to the rear region () on both sides and front side portions () that are attached to the front region () on both sides, said rear and front side portions extending in the transverse direction () beyond the lateral front and rear longitudinal edges () of the main part (), and wherein the rear side portions () have first closure means () which are close to the leg opening and have closure aids and wherein the closure means () can be secured in a detachable manner at least on the outer side of the front side portions (), as a result of which the front region () and the rear region () can be connected together, wherein, in order to form side-portion leg-opening regions (), the side portions () are formed, at least on the side facing the crotch region (), in a manner extending obliquely with respect to the longitudinal direction () or in a curved manner, characterized in that the length-to-width ratio R of the side-portion leg-opening region of the rear side portions () is 0.1-0.4, in that the tear propagation resistance Fm of the material forming the side portions is at least 4.0 N in the longitudinal direction of the diaper, and in that the spacing C of the closure means () close to the leg opening from the lower edge of the rear side portions is at most 5 cm.

An absorbent incontinence article () has a main part () composed of a front area () and of a rear area () and, lying between these in the longitudinal direction (), a crotch area () that comes to lie between the legs of a user, the main part () comprising an absorption body (), and with mutually separate side portions () which are joined to the rear area () and/or to the front area () on both sides and which extend in the transverse direction () across lateral longitudinal edges () of the main part () and connect the front area () and the rear area () to each other when the article is applied. The invention relates to a hygiene article, with an individual wrapping. The wrapping comprises a longitudinal section of a tubular, flatly folded strip provided with a flat side forming an outer side, and which forms an inner side of the wrapping, and having a longitudinal axis parallel to a longitudinal axis of the hygiene article. One longitudinal end is sealed in liquid-tight manner, and the other end is open or can be opened. The hygiene article is laid on the flat inner side of the longitudinal section of the tubular strip, and is folded onto itself together with the longitudinal section around two transversal axes. Longitudinal edges of the longitudinal section are detachably connected to one another to hold the hygiene article in a folded configuration inside the wrapping, to be able to remove the article from the wrapping before use, for disposing of the article, and to be able to insert the same into the open end of the longitudinal section after use.
