A microfluidic assembly can include a first microchannel substrate defining one or more first microchannels, a second microchannel substrate defining one or more second microchannels. The assembly can further include a membrane positioned between the first and second microchannel substrates and comprising a first polymeric layer, a second polymeric layer, and one or more graphene layers disposed between the first and second polymeric layers. At least a portion of the first microchannels can overlap at least a portion of the second microchannels such that, when a first fluid is present in the first microchannels and a second fluid is present in the second microchannels, the first fluid and the second fluid contact opposite sides of the membrane.

Graphene membrane microfluidic system

In one aspect of the invention, a method for growth of carbon nanotubes includes providing a graphitic composite, decorating the graphitic composite with metal nanostructures to form graphene-contained powders, and heating the graphene-contained powders at a target temperature to form the carbon nanotubes in an argon/hydrogen environment that is devoid of a hydrocarbon source. In one embodiment, the target temperature can be as low as about 150&#xb0; C. (&#xb1;5&#xb0; C.).

Carbon nanotubes and methods of forming same at low temperature

An apparatus and method for synthesizing nanostructures in a reactor having a reaction zone and a conductive susceptor positioned in the reaction zone. In one embodiment, the method has the steps of placing a semiconductor plate having a film of a catalyst in the reaction zone such that the semiconductor plate is supported by the conductive susceptor; transporting a gas mixture having a feedstock gas having hydrocarbon and a carrier gas into the reaction zone of the chamber; inductively heating the reaction zone; and regulating the heating so that the temperature of the conductive susceptor increases from a first temperature to a second temperature when the gas mixture is introduced into the cavity of the chamber to allow nanostructures to be grown from the interaction of the gas mixture with the film of a catalyst of the semiconductor plate.
