The object of the invention is to provide a method which is as simple and economical as possible for manufacturing a tufted product, in particular a tufted top layer of a carpet, having improved nep adhesion properties. For this purpose splittable fibers are used which split on or in the region of the puncture site during tufting.

A method for producing a spunbonded nonwoven fabric by extruding a linear sheet of filaments arranged parallelly side by side in the form of a curtain from a plurality of spinning capillaries, involving aerodynamical pulling off and drawing of the filament sheet, the filament sheet () which emerges from the drawing duct () or which is pulled off a spool being moved laterally crosswise by an air flow having periodically changing directions, the air flow being oriented alternately at an angle toward the filament sheet () as viewed in the horizontal plane.

Rectangular or round spinning nozzle packs for extruding thermoplastic filaments each have both melt channels and orifices for the higher melting polymer compound and also melt channels with orifices through which is passed a polymer compound that melts at a temperature 5 to 50.degree. C. lower. Variously designed insulation channels thermally separate these melt channels, which are operated at different temperatures.

Device for producing spunbonded nonwovens

The apparatus for manufacturing the nonwoven fabric contains at least one, and may contain up to forty or more, spinneret devices, such as rectangular spinneret plates or round spinneret disks. The spinneret devices may be arranged in rows or in staggered arrangement above a linearly moving collector belt. Spinning orifices on the spinneret devices are respectively dedicated to producing a monofilament or a bicomponent filament from a melt and, viewed in the direction of motion of the collector belt, are arranged with respect to one another so as to correspond in their totality to the cross sectional structure of different filament types in the nonwoven fabric.

Apparatus for the manufacture of a spun nonwoven fabric

The present invention provides a method for manufacturing polypropylene spun-bonded fabrics, which method involves preparing a polypropylene melt at a temperature of about 240.degree. to 280.degree. C. and forming polypropylene filaments by extruding this melt through a spinning nozzle at an extrusion velocity of about 0.02 meter/second to 0.2 meter/second. The spinning nozzle, or spinneret, has holes with a diameter less than 0.8 millimeter. The filaments thus formed are subsequently quenched by transversely blowing air at a temperature between about 20.degree. to 40.degree. C. The filaments are also aerodynamically withdrawn by means sufficient to create a filament withdrawal velocity between about 20 meters/second and 60 meters/second. The ratio of the extrusion velocity to the withdrawal velocity (herein defined as the deformation ratio) is between about 1:200 and 1:1000. These aerodynamically withdrawn filaments are then deposited onto a moving porous support in order to form a continuous web. This web is then bonded by suitable means, forming a finished spun-bonded nonwoven fabric.
