Polymer composition showing an improved balance of flexural modulus, IZOD impact strength and elongation at break comprising (percent by weight): A) a polymer blend comprising: A1) 50-70% of a crystalline propylene homopolymer or copolymer; and A2) 30-50% of one or more copolymer(s) of ethylene with one or more C-C&#x3b1;-olefin(s) containing from 15 to 35% of said C-C&#x3b1;-olefin(s); said polymer blend (A) having values of MFR equal to or higher than 10 g/10 min., a total content C-C&#x3b1;-olefin(s) equal to or higher than 8% and an intrinsic viscosity value of the fraction soluble in xylene at room temperature of from 1.3 to 2 dl/g, the amounts of (A1) and (A2) being referred to the total weight of the polymer blend; and optionally B) 1-15% of an elastomeric polymer different from A2), having a hardness (Shore A, ASTM D-2240) value equal to or lower than 90 points; and/or C) 0.5-20% of a mineral filler; the amounts of optional components (B) and (C) being referred to the total weight of the composition.

Polyolefin composition having a high balance of stiffness, impact strength and elongation at break and low thermal shrinkage

A masterbatch composition comprising (percent by weight): A) 50%-90% of a crystalline polypropylene component comprising: A) from 25% to 75% of a fraction having a melt flow rate MFRof from 0.1 to 10 g/10 min.; and A) from 75% to 25% of a fraction having a melt flow rate value MFRequal to or lower than 100 g/10 min.; wherein the ratio MFR/MFRis from 5 to 60; and B) 10%-50% of a copolymer component of ethylene and at least one C-C&#x3b1;-olefin, containing from 15% to 50% of ethylene; said masterbatch composition having a value of the intrinsic viscosity [&#x3b7;] of the fraction soluble in xylene at room temperature equal to or higher than 3.5 dl/g, is added to polyolefin materials to obtain final compositions suitable for injection molding.

Butene-1 copolymers and process for their preparation

A masterbatch composition comprising (percent by weight): A) 15%-50% of a polypropylene component having a melt flow rate of from 1 to 250 g/10 min.; and B) 50%-85% of an olefin polymer partially soluble in xylene at room temperature, containing from 60% to 85% by weight of ethylene; said masterbatch composition having (i) a value of the intrinsic viscosity [&#x3b7;] of the fraction soluble in xylene at room temperature ([&#x3b7;]) equal to or lower than 2.9 dl/g, and (ii) a value of the ratio MFR/[&#x3b7;], , , , equal to or lower than 4, is added to polyolefin materials to obtain final compositions suitable for injection molding.

A polyolefin composition comprising (percentage by weight): (A) from 60 to 85% of a broad molecular weight distribution propylene polymer (component A) having a polydispersity index from 5 to 15 and melt flow rate of from 20 to 78 g/10 min (according to ASTM-D 1238, condition L); and (B) from 15 to 40% of a partially xylene-soluble olefin polymer rubber (component B) containing at least 65% by weight of ethylene. Polyolefin composition having a high balance of stiffness and impact strength

A polyolefin composition comprising: (A) from 8 to 25% by weight of a crystalline homopolymer or copolymer of propylene: (B) from 75 to 92% by weight of an elastomeric fraction comprising: (1) a first elastomeric copolymer of propylene with from 15 to 32% by weight at least one alpha-olefin of formula HC&#x2550;CHR, where R is H or a Clinear or branched alkyl, optionally containing 0.5 to 5% by weight of a diene, said first elastomeric copolymer containing alpha-olefin, and having solubility in xylene at room temperature greater than 50% by weight, the intrinsic viscosity of the xylene soluble fraction ranging from 3.0 to 5.0 dl/g; and (2) a second elastomeric copolymer of propylene with at least one alpha-olefin of formula HC&#x2550;CHR, where R is H or a Clinear or branched alkyl, optionally containing 0.5 to 5% by weight of a diene, said second elastomeric copolymer containing more than 32% up to 45% by weight alpha-olefin, and having solubility in xylene at room temperature greater than 80% by weight, the intrinsic viscosity of the xylene soluble fraction ranging from 4.0 to 6.5 dl/g; the (1)/(2) weight ratio ranging from 1:5 to 5:1.

1-butene copolymers and process for preparing them

A masterbatch composition comprising (1) 10-50 wt % of a crystalline propylene homopolymer and (2) 50-90 wt % of a blend consisting of (a) a copolymer of ethylene and one or more C4-CIO a-olefin(s), containing 10-40 of C4-CIO a-olefin(s), and (b) an amorphous copolymer of propylene and ethylene. Copolymer (b) has an ethylene content from 20-70 wt %, and an intrinsic viscosity value of the xylene-soluble moiety of from 2.2 to 3.5 d/Lg, this value being equal to 0.8 to 1.2 times the intrinsic viscosity value of the xylene-soluble moiety of copolymer (a). The weight ratio of copolymers (a)/(b) is from 3/1 to 1/3. Polyolefin compositions comprising the said masterbatch composition are suitable for the manufacture of automotive parts.

Polyolefin masterbatch for preparing impact-resistant polyolefin articles

Highly transparent and flexible elastoplastic polyolefin compositions which contain A) 10-20 parts by weight of a propylene homopolymer or copolymer with ethylene and/or one or more CH&#x2550;CHR &#x3b1;-olefins, the copolymer containing at least 95% by weight of propylene; B) 5-20 parts by weight of propylene copolymer fraction containing ethylene and insoluble in xylene at room temperature; and C) 60-80 parts by weight of a propylene copolymer fraction containing a comonomer selected from ethylene and mixtures of ethylene with one or more CH&#x2550;CHR &#x3b1;-olefin and soluble in xylene at room temperature, the fraction containing from 15 to 25% by weight of the comonomer, the percent by weight of the sum of the B and C components with respect to the total polyolefin composition being from 80% to 90%.

High transparency and high flexibility elastoplastic polyolefin compositions

Thermoplastic olefin elastomers and process for their preparation

Elastoplastic compositions comprising a continuous crystalline polyolefin phase and at least two phases discretely dispersed in the polyolefin phase, one of which is a dynamically cured EPDM rubber and the other an amorphous and thermoplastic styrene polymer, in which at least 80% of the dispersed particles has a maximum size preferably below 5 .mu.m. The compositions are prepared by masticating a mixture of the components under conditions of dynamic curing of rubber.

Elastoplastic compositions and process for preparing them

Plasto-elastomeric compositions with improved processability and high elasto-mechanical properties, consisting of mixes of a cross-linked EPDM rubber and a thermoplastic olefinic polymer, are prepared by the dynamic vulcanization method, using as cross-linking agent for the rubbery component a system comprising a non-halogenated phenolic resin, zinc oxide and p-toluenesulfonic acid.

Process for the preparation of polyolefinic plasto-elastomeric

Process for cross-linking polypropylene, propylene copolymers, polyethylene, ethylene/propylene and ethylene/propylene/diene elastomeric copolymers and mixtures of said elastomers with above said thermoplastic polyolefins, which consists in modifying the polymer in the molten state, by the addition of 0.01%-10% by weight of carboxylic acid, possibly in the presence of a generator of radicals and by the subsequent salification with metal ions of the thus grafted carboxylic groups. The polymer products thus obtained display considerably improved characteristics under heating. In particular, there are obtained improved processability and elastic recovery characteristics for thermoplastic rubbers.
