A sprocket for a chain including a thick hub portion and a plurality of thinner sprocket rings mounted on the hub. The hub has a rounded polygon peripheral configuration and the rings have complementary bores to receive the hub. The rings have sprocket teeth defined about their outer edges. When the sprocket rings are mounted in face-to-face nesting arrangement on the hub the teeth on adjacent sprocket rings are aligned axially of the hub. A pair of side plates having a greater diameter than the sprocket rings confine the rings on the hub and aid in holding a chain thereon during operation.

Multi-ring sprocket

A hedge cutting bar is shown and described as having rivets for securing a cutting blade between a retaining blade and a stationary blade. The rivet structure includes a central flange and distal hubs whereby the central flange may occupy slots in the cutting blade while the hubs attach within respective mounting apertures of the stationary blade and the retaining blade. The thickness of the flange is greater than the thickness of the cutting blade whereby a gripping force provided by the rivet is taken up at the flange to avoid pinching of the cutting blade between the stationary blade and the retaining blade. The described fastening arrangement is less suspectable to loosening under the vibrational forces imposed during use of the hedge cutting bar than that of prior fastening arrangements.

Rivet connector for hedge cutting blade

A hedge trimming tool having a fixed elongated blade mounted to the power head of the tool and a cutting blade mounted over the fixed blade and reciprocating relative to the fixed blade in the direction of the lengthwise axis. A leading side of the fixed blade has projecting fingers or teeth and the overlying portion of the cutting blade has projecting teeth that reciprocate across the openings between the fingers. The reciprocating teeth have sides configured in a complex curve forming an hour glass planar profile and an inverted U-shaped cross section. The U-shaped cross section is provideed by curving the sides of the teeth downwardly whereby the teeth sides are angularly projected through the plane defined by the bottom surface of the blade. The cutting edges along the sides are formed by grinding faces through the portions of the teeth projected below the bottom surface of the blade. The faces are formed in a single pass of the grinding implement with the faces parallel to the bottom surface of the blade.

Vegetation cutting tool and method of manufacture

A chain saw bar nose has a rotatable sprocket. The sprocket assembly is adapted to conform in shape to the drive tang portions of the saw chain whereby the nose sprocket may receive operational forces imposed by the saw chain substantially as compressive forces as opposed to tensile forces. As a result, the nose sprocket assembly better withstands the harsh operating conditions imposed by cutting applications.

A winch mounted to an automobile bumper and having a cable winding drum supported between a main drive housing and an oppositely positioned idler housing. The drive housing connects to the bumper braket by means of a pair of convexly curved mounting lugs which permit limited angular movement of the drive housing with respect to the bumper. The idler housing has a flat mounting surface which fits flush against the bumper bracket surface to prevent such angular movement. Upon distortion or misalignment of the bumper braket, the drum is able to shift angularly with respect to the idler housing, while the other end of the drum maintains a fixed angular relationship with its bearing means in the main drive housing, which is in turn able to shift angularly with respect to the bumper bracket.

Winch mounting apparatus

A winch mounted to an automobile bumper and comprising a cable winding drum rotatably mounted between a main drive housing and an opposite end idler housing. The main drive housing has a main lower section of integral box-like construction and an open top closed by an upper housing section. The drive end of the drum and an intermediate drive member are inserted laterally into the lower housing through access openings, and are retained in place by a downwardly inserted retaining plate. The remaining drive components are inserted into the lower housing section through the top opening or positioned in the upper housing section. This construction provides for easy assembly of the drive components, with box-like construction of the main housing being better able to withstand the substantial force loads exerted thereon.

A winch having a clutch-brake assembly comprising a ratchet plate with a constantly engaged pawl, and two clutch shoes. With a tension load on the cable of the drum, two rotatably mounted cam members engage each other to move the clutch shoes into engagement with the ratchet plate to cause power to be transmitted to the drum of the winch. Under minimal or no external load, after the power source has been operated shortly in reverse, a spring maintains the clutch shoes out of engagement to permit the cable on the drum to be reeled out freely at a moderate rate of acceleration.

Winch

An automobile mounted winch having a clutch-brake assembly comprising a disc shaped ratchet plate positioned between two friction shoes, acting as a clutch in one direction and a speed governor in another direction, and a stationary brake. A plurality of friction buttons extend through the ratchet plate in a generally circular pattern, with each button engaging both shoes. Each button has an expanded head portion, and the buttons are oppositely arranged in an alternating pattern to centrally locate the ratchet between the two shoes and provide proper frictional engagement of the buttons with the shoes.
