A hard-sided luggage bag includes at least one shell portion, and has a front side, a back side, and a bottom side extending between the front and back sides. The least one shell portion encloses a storage compartment and includes an access opening permitting access to the storage compartment. The access opening is formed in at least part of the front side and is spaced apart from the bottom side. At least one lid is releasably coupled to the at least one shell portion to cover the access opening.

A handheld scale for weighing luggage having a body housing a power source, a processor, and a display, a luggage engagement member rotatably coupled to the body and moveable between a first position and a second position in which the luggage engagement member presents a surface from which a piece of luggage can be supported, a load sensor, and a switch activated by the luggage engagement member, the switch being configured such that when the luggage engagement member is in the second position, the power source is operatively coupled to the display, and the processor is configured to receive, from the load sensor, a signal proportional to a force applied to the surface relative to the body, and to provide, via the display, an indication of the force; and when the luggage engagement member is in the first position, the power source is operatively decoupled from at least the display.

A hard-sided suitcase may include a first shell portion and a complimentary second shell portion connected to the first shell portion and movable between closed position in which the first and second shell portions enclose an interior of the suitcase and an open position permitting access to the interior. The first shell portion may have a first base wall and a first side wall meeting the first base wall at a first juncture. A first design panel may be coupled to the first shell portion. The first design panel covering at least a portion of the first base wall and the first side wall and extending across the first juncture.
