A forged sickle bar hold-down formed with a reduced transverse cross-sectional area and a first hole therethrough positioned toward the rear end of the hold-down is disclosed. The hold-down includes a second hole therethrough positioned between the reduced cross-sectional area and the first hole. In use, an attachment bolt is positioned through the first hole and a support bar and rigidly affixed thereto. A threaded adjustment bolt is inserted through the second hole and the support bar to selectively draw down on that portion of the hold-down forward of the reduced transverse cross-sectional area and thereby flex the forward portion of the hold-down which includes an elongated finger-like body portion with a knife section facing area.

A sickle bar hold-down formed with a protruding ridge across the lower rear end is disclosed. The hold-down is generally an elongate member having a finger-like front portion and an opposing rectangular rear portion with means for affixing the member to a frame assembly. The frame assembly includes a raised rectangular step above which the rear portion of the hold-down is positioned, with the protruding ridge adapted to fit over the step such that the protruding ridge overhangs the step and properly aligns the finger-like front portion of the hold-down with the knife sections of the sickle bar.

A stud plate is disclosed comprising a steel plate with two spaced-apart threaded stainless steel studs stud-welded thereto. In use, the stud plate has two forged sickle bar hold-downs attached thereto such that a nut on the studs may be selectively tightened to flex a portion of the hold-down and thus adjust the spatial relationship between the hold-down and a knife section.

An adjustable double sickle cutterbar assembly using sickle bar hold-downs that minimizes the interference to the flow of cut crop material rearwardly in the header, thus to reduce the catching of cut crop material.

A reciprocating cutterbar of the type utilizing a pair of counter-reciprocating sickles driven at the opposing outboard ends and overlapping at the inboard ends thereof is disclosed wherein the knife sections are detachably affixed to the respective support bars of these sickles by special threaded fasteners to permit the overlapped knife sections to maintain a close shearing relationship. These special threaded fasteners include a head portion adapted to be countersunk into the body of the knife section below the surface thereof, a threaded portion adapted to be threadably engaged with a nut to effect a clamping load between the knife section and support bar, and an intermediate portion having a non-circular cross-sectional configuration engageable with a corresponding non-circular opening formed in the support bar to restrict rotation thereof when the fastener is engaged therewith. The head portion of the fastener includes a chamfered surface engageable with a ccorresponding chamfered surface surrounding the hole through the knife section to permit the fastener to firmly engage the knife section while being countersunk therein.

A mechanism for lifting the reel on a mower-conditioner relative to the cutterbar when the header is raised to an upward position is disclosed wherein a link is selectively connectable between the reel arms and the mower-conditioner frame to effect a pivotal movement of the reel arms on the header when the header is raised relative to the mower-conditioner frame by the header lift mechanism. The link can be in the form of a flexible chain operatively engaged with a take-up mechanism to permit storage of the chain when placed in an inoperative position or in the form of a rigid link selectively pivotally connectable to both the frame and the reel arms when movement of the reel relative to the cutterbar is desired.

Apparatus (52) is provided for wrapping bales with twine in a round baler. The twine wrapping apparatus (52) includes a twine dispensing member (56) mounted for pivoting movement, a clamp assembly (100) to clamp the twine dispensed by the twine dispensing member (56), and a trip mechanism (114) connected to the clamp assembly (100). The trip mechanism (114) is actuated by engagement with the twine dispensing member (56) during its pivoting movement to release the twine from the clamp assembly (100).

Apparatus (52) is provided for wrapping bales with twine in a type of round baler (1) having bale forming mechanism comprised of a plurality of conveying members such as rollers (36a-36f). The twine wrapping apparatus (52) includes a twine dispensing member (56) mounted for pivoting movement to dispense twine through a gap (35) between two of the conveying members (36d and 36e). A stationary member (88) guides the twine into the gap (35) during the pivoting movement of the twine dispensing member (56).

In a crop harvesting and threshing machine there is provided apparatus that will permit the unloading auger and tube to be automatically moved from at least an inboard first position to an outboard second position by the momentary manual engagement of the control apparatus for substantially less time than that required for the unloading auger and tube to move from the first position to the second position.

A mechanical throttle control mechanism is provided for the remote control of an internal combustion engine. The mechanism comprises a speed selector arm movable between first and second limit positions, a friction lock operably associated with the speed selector arm and an arrangement of links connecting the speed selector arm to the throttle lever of the engine. The links of the mechanism are so positioned to cause a decreasing moment arm on the speed selector arm as the speed selector arm is moved from its first position toward its second position which respectively corresponds to the shut-off and full-throttle positions of the throttle lever. This arrangement reduces the need experienced heretofore for high friction disc pressure to hold the speed selector arm in a desired position between its limit positions, resulting in less disc wear and less frequent friction spring adjustment. At its second position, the selector arm is in an over-centered position which eliminates the rotational load on the friction disc and prevents the speed selector arm from slipping toward its first position.
