Additionally, suction elements with suction openings pointing outwards are also arranged in the circumferential region. A plurality or all of the magnetic elements are arranged one behind the other and are each combined with at least one assigned suction element in respective modular units as action units in a plurality or all of the columns of magnetic elements. The action units can be positioned in each case independently of the other action units in the circumferential direction and/or can be detached from the cylinder.

The at least two magnetic elements are mounted so as to be adjustable relative to the magnetic element carrier carrying the magnetic element in the circumferential direction within an adjustment range.

The at least two magnetic elements of the same column are arranged at respective magnetic element carriers that can be positioned at the shared carrier element independently of one another in the circumferential direction and/or can be detached from the carrier element and/or are adjustable in the axial direction within an adjustment range.

Examples include a printing unit having a first tool-dependent printing nip formed by a pair of cooperating rotational bodies. The printing unit includes, along a transport path, downstream from the first tool-dependent printing nip, a first alignment cylinder and a first non-impact printing position to which at least one first print head is assigned. The printing unit further includes, along the transport path, downstream from the first non-impact printing position, a first curing device having a first curing area assigned thereto. The printing unit, downstream from the at least one first alignment cylinder, including at least one second alignment cylinder and a second non-impact printing position, to which a second print head is assigned. In some examples, a screen printing unit includes a screen printing forme cylinder, an impression cylinder, and a frame including two frame side walls. The screen printing unit further includes first and second base modules, each comprising two stationary base side walls that each have a one-piece design. Each base module includes four installation areas for rotational transport bodies whose positions coincide in the base modules, and the respective first and second installation areas of each base module form a respective selection group of the base module. An impression cylinder cooperating with the screen printing forme cylinder is in one of the installation areas of the selection group of the first base module, and a respective rotational transport body is arranged in each of the four installation areas of the base modules. A functionally different rotational transport body is arranged in an installation area of the first base module.

In some examples, a machine for generating optically variable image elements on a substrate includes a printing substrate infeed and a printing unit including a printing mechanism by which a substrate guided on a transport path is printed with a coating agent containing magnetic or magnetizable particles. A device for aligning the magnetic or magnetizable particles includes a first alignment device in the transport path and a further alignment device arranged upstream therefrom. During normal operation, the further alignment device is fixed to a frame at the transport path. The further alignment device includes a plurality of magnets that are spaced apart from one another transversely to the transport direction and, during operation, remain stationary. The number of magnets included in the further alignment device correspond to a number of columns of image-producing print motifs or groups of image-producing print motifs around a circumference of a forme cylinder.

Machine for generating optically variable image elements

There is described a hot-stamping press ('&#x2033;) comprising a foil application unit (*) designed to allow transfer or lamination of foil material (FM) by hot-stamping onto a substrate (S) supplied in the form of successive sheets or successive portions of a continuous web, which foil material (FM) is fed to the foil application unit (*) in the form of a foil carrier (FC) supplied by means of a foil feeding system (). The hot-stamping press () further comprises at least one UV-curing unit () located along a path (A) of the substrate (S) downstream of the foil application unit (*) to subject the foil material (FM) transferred or laminated onto the substrate (S) to a UV-curing operation. The foil material (FM) is provided with an adhesive intended to ensure adhesion of the foil material (FM) onto the substrate (S), which adhesive comprises a combination of hot-melt compounds reacting to the application of heat produced by the foil application unit (*) and UV-curing compounds reacting to the application of ultraviolet radiation produced by the UV-curing unit ().

Device and printing press for producing a security element on a substrate

There is described a security element (EL) or document (BN), such as a banknote, comprising (i) a substrate (S) with first and second sides (I, II) and exhibiting at least one window region (W) made of a substantially transparent material, (ii) a micro-optical structure (OP) provided on the first side (I) of the substrate (S) and extending over at least a part of the window region (W), and (iii) a printed feature (P-P) printed on the second side (II) of the substrate (S) over at least a part of the window region (W), the printed feature (P-P) being provided in register with the micro-optical structure (OP) to produce an optically-variable effect (EF) upon looking at the printed feature (P-P) from the first side (I) of the substrate (S) through the micro-optical structure (OP) and the window region (W). The security element (EL) or document (BN) further comprises a protective layer (L) acting as printable primer layer and provided on the second side (II) of the substrate (S) over the window region (W) and on top of the printed feature (P-P), which protective layer (L) covers the printed feature (P-P) when seen from the second side (II) of the substrate (S) and further acts as a contrast-enhancing layer for the optically-variable effect (EF).
