Single-phase microemulsions, comprising a solvent, a surfactant blend and a carrier fluid, are effective spacer fluids for use during cementing operations. The solvent may be selected from the group consisting of monoterpenes, diterpenes, and alkyl or aryl esters of short-chain alcohols. The surfactant blend comprises a water-wetting surfactant or nonionic surfactant, a co-surfactant and an oil-solubilizing surfactant. The carrier fluid is aqueous. The solvent and surfactant blend are combined with the carrier fluid to produce the well-treatment microemulsion.

Compositions and methods for cleaning a wellbore prior to cementing

Compositions and methods that mitigate pressure buildup in the annular space between two tubular bodies in subterranean wells. The composition of the invention comprises an aqueous solution of crosslinkable acrylamide-base polymer, a crosslinker and a gas. Once foamed and placed in the annular space, the composition provides a resilient, flexible, compressible and durable body that is able to compensate for pressure increases in the annular space, thereby protecting the integrity of the tubular bodies.

Methods for mitigation of annular pressure buildup in subterranean wells

A flexible cement stable at high temperatures contains an extender that is a finely ground bituminous coal and/or a finely ground coke prepared from coal and/or liquid hydrocarbons. Preferred cokes are made from bituminous coals and from petroleum, heavy oil, and oil from tar sands, oil shales or oil sands. The coke is present in an amount up to 100 percent by weight of cement and the particle size is preferably from 1 to 1000 microns. The coke is also effective as an extender, and the slurries and set cements have low specific gravity.

Carbonaceous extenders for flexible cement

A method is given for reducing fluid loss in downhole operations such as drilling and completion. A composition containing a fusing solid is injected into the fluid loss flow path; the fusing solid fuses at formation temperature when the injection pressure is released and the formation matrix surfaces forming the flow path close on the composition. The fusing solid is gilsonite, or a similar material, or resin coated particles. The composition may optionally contain one or more of fibers, flakes, an activator, and a dispersant.

Fusing materials for prevention of lost circulation

A flexible cement stable at high temperatures contains an extender that is a finely ground polyetheretherketone. The cement retains its flexibility for long times at high temperatures, for example those used for steam assisted gravity drainage of heavy oil formations, for example from about 480 to about 644&#xb0; F. (249 to 340&#xb0; C.). Compressive strength, tensile strength, permeability and porosity are all stable and suitable for high temperature down-hole oilfield use.

The synergy achieved from combining fibers and particulates into the same sample results in a composite slurry with improved electrical properties and easy-to-optimize rheologies. Method for measuring resistivity through casing thanks to the nature of the cement composition is also provided.

Conductive cement formulation and application for use in well

The invention provides a cement slurry composition for cementing a well comprising a hydraulic cement, water, carbon fiber and graphite. Compositions of the current invention combine the benefits obtained from adding carbon fiber and graphite to the cement composite. The synergy achieved from combining fibers and particulates into the same sample results in a composite slurry with improved electrical properties and easy-to-optimize rheologies.
