Flexible implant for electrically recording or stimulating a nerve structure, said flexible implant comprising: a first layer of electrically insulating diamond; an electrode of electrically conductive doped diamond, in contact with the first layer of electrically insulating diamond; an electrically conductive layer in contact with the electrode and the first layer, so as to define a conductive track for the electrode; and a second layer of electrically insulating diamond, at least in contact with the electrically conductive layer and a remaining portion of the first layer, all of the above arranged such that: electrically insulating diamond/electrically conductive doped diamond sealing is provided at the electrode () by resumption of epitaxial growth; and the electrically conductive layer is encapsulated by the electrode (), the first layer and the second layer, at the electrode and over the entirety of the remaining surface thereof except over an area defining an electrical contact. The implant has two faces, namely: a front face comprising one of the two layers of electrically insulating diamond, open locally, providing access to the electrode and the area defining an electrical contact; and a rear face comprising the other of the two layers of electrically insulating diamond.

Flexible soft diamond implant

A method for electrochemically activating a doped diamond electrode by bringing the electrode into contact with an aqueous solution containing an electrolyte and applying at least one electrical pulse to the electrode. This method may be used to restore the electrochemical reactivity of a doped diamond-based electrode, the activation of the electrode in some cases possibly being done in the same aqueous solution containing an electrolyte in which the electrode lost its electrochemical reactivity.

A method for manufacturing an intraocular retinal implant including: providing a mold capable of supporting growth of a layer of doped diamond, the mold including, on one face, elements all depressed or all projecting with respect to the surface of the face, and constituting a pattern cavity for the electrodes of the implant which it is desired to obtain; producing the doped diamond electrodes by growing a layer of doped diamond in all or part of a space occupied by the pattern cavity elements; forming a first insulating layer on the face of the mold including the pattern cavity; producing interconnection lines by depositing an electrically conductive material at least in spaces not covered by the first insulating layer; forming a second insulating layer on the mold face including the pattern cavity, the second layer covering the interconnection lines, the first and second insulating layers forming a flexible plate of the implant; removing the mold.

Method for manufacturing a flexible intraocular retinal implant having doped diamond electrodes

A method of manufacturing a diamond layer having a porous three-dimensional structure, the method being of the type which includes growing the diamond layer from a sacrificial material and gradually decomposing said sacrificial material during growth of the diamond layer, said material including the following steps; 1) provision of a substrate capable of supporting the plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition growth of the diamond layer on at least one of the surfaces of the substrate, the substrate comprising, on said at least one surface thereof, a layer made of a sacrificial material having a porous three-dimensional structure capable of gradually decomposing upon contact with said plasma, the layer of sacrificial material containing diamond grains of nanometric size, and 2) growth by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition of the diamond layer from diamond grains and concomitant and gradual decomposition of the sacrificial material upon contact with said plasma.
