Systems and methods are disclosed for monitoring power consumption by electrical devices. In some aspects, a computing device can detect a change in aggregate electricity usage at a monitored environment that includes multiple electrical devices. The computing device can determine that electricity usage by one of the electrical devices has changed. The computing device can determine that the change in electricity usage has occurred based on a change in a monitored operational parameter other than electrical power provided to the electrical device. The value of the monitored operational parameter can change based on an operation performed by the electrical device when using electricity. The computing device can determine how electricity is used by the electrical device by correlating the change in the aggregate electricity usage and the change in the electricity usage by the electrical device.

Monitoring power consumption by electrical devices using monitored operational parameters

Devices and methods used in a wireless network employing geographical routing using virtual node locations. Such virtual node locations can be computed by a central computer that gathers information from some or all of the nodes. Each node may, for example, identify itself and its neighbors and provide a value indicative of the radio frequency (RF) distance to such neighbors. Examples of RF distance indicators include, but are not limited to, received signal strength indication (RSSI) and packet success rate (PSR). Geographic coordinates for none or some of the nodes may also be used to determine the virtual coordinates.

Systems and methods for wireless network routing using radio frequency distance-based virtual node locations

Systems and methods are disclosed for sending messages regarding an emergency at a facility. The messages can be sent to an emergency response service or directly to another facility through a wireless mesh network. The wireless mesh network can comprise one or more nodes that route measurement data, such as utility meter reading data. The emergency messages can be assigned a higher priority so that they travel through the wireless mesh network more quickly. A device receiving an emergency message may identify the address of the associated facility, for example, by identifying an address associated with utility service also provided at the same facility. The address can be forwarded to an emergency response service and a confirmation or other message may be sent back to the facility. A device at a facility may receive various messages from a control center, such as a weather center, over the wireless mesh network.

Methods and systems for sending messages regarding an emergency that occurred at a facility

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for managing utility device operations. In one aspect, a utility apparatus includes a processing apparatus that manages data processing tasks for the utility apparatus. The utility apparatus also includes a communications apparatus, coupled to the processing apparatus, that is configured to transmit and receive data over a network. A metrology apparatus is coupled to the processing apparatus, the metrology apparatus being configured to measure and provide meter data that includes at least a measure of utilized utility services. A network apparatus is also coupled to the processing apparatus, the network apparatus being configured to coordinate communication between devices that belong to a home area network. A utility identification module interface is coupled to the processing apparatus, the utility identification module having an interface that removably receives a utility identification module.

Utility device management

Certain embodiments provide a system for recovering data from at least one signal. The system can include an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and in-phase/quadrature (IQ) generator component that can sample a signal recovered from a communication medium to generate a first signal sample and a second signal sample. A Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) component can process the first signal sample to generate a first signal phase and process the second signal sample to generate a second signal phase. A phase difference calculation component can determine a phase difference between the first signal phase and the second signal phase, determine a bit value represented by the signal based on the phase difference, and output the bit value to an end device coupled to the phase difference calculation component.

Systems and methods for signal modulation and demodulation using phase

Systems and methods are disclosed for processing at least two spread spectrum signals that at least partially overlap in time and in frequency. A main correlator bank with a trip detection component can determine a PN code phase for each of the spread spectrum signals that are associated with a PN code signal. The signals may at least partially overlap in time and in frequency. The PN code phases can be determined by comparing the signals to internally generated PN code phases. Based on the comparison, trips associated with the code phases are detected. The PN code phase for each signal can be used to extract a data signal from the signal. The data signals can be outputted.
