A snow sock is provided that includes a covering that extends in a circumferential direction. The covering has a thickness and an outer surface. A first thickness section is present and extends along a first arc length, and has a first thickness section inner surface that engages the outer surface of the covering. At least 50% of the first thickness section inner surface engages the outer surface of the covering and/or a first fill element. A second thickness section is also provided and is spaced from the first thickness section. The second thickness section extends in the circumferential direction along a second arc length, and has a second thickness section inner surface that engages the outer surface of the covering. At least 50% of the second thickness section inner surface engages the outer surface of the covering and/or a second fill element.

The side ribs are made from a first rubber composition less than 50% filled with black. The central rib comprises a portion () made from a second rubber composition more than 50% filled with black, the axial width (LP) of said portion being greater than or equal to 20% of the axial width LC of the central rib. The first rubber composition has a tan &#x3b4;0 value which is greater than the tan &#x3b4;0 value of the second rubber composition, where tan &#x3b4;0 denotes the tan &#x3b4; value measured at a temperature of 0&#xb0; C. and under a stress of 0.7 mPa.

Tire tread has a central rib (-) and two lateral ribs (-) which are separated by circumferential grooves (-). A first lateral rib () adjacent to the outer axial edge of the tread and a central rib have a first portion () the axial width of which exceeds 20% of the axial width of the relevant rib made from a first rubber composition containing an elastomer and a reinforcing filler consisting predominantly of carbon black, and an axially adjacent second portion () made of a second rubber composition containing an elastomer and a reinforcing filler a minority proportion of which consists of carbon black. The second rubber composition has a tan d0 value which is less than the tan d0 value of the first rubber composition, the tan d0 values being measured at a temperature of 0 C and under a stress of 0.7 MPa.

A tire and a method for forming a tire tread are disclosed. The tire includes a tread defining an inferior tread profile and a superior tread profile, the superior tread profile having a generally continuous curvature between an edge of contact and a top center point. The superior tread profile includes a plurality of control points and a plurality of splines. Each of the plurality of splines extends between at least two of the plurality of control points. Curvatures of adjacent splines are generally equal at each of the plurality of control points.
