A device for processing video and graphics data includes a component and a main random access memory containing video and graphics data. The component includes a processing unit, and a two-dimensional acceleration unit cooperating with the processing unit and the main random access memory to compose in real time images. The images include at least one video plane and at least one graphics plane, and are stored in the main random access memory. An output interface extracts the image data thus composed from the main random access memory for delivery to an image display.

A process of filtering digital images to reduce image flicker. An anti-flicker filtering is performed after a step of calculating the image and before a step of displaying the image so that the flicker is filtered as soon as the image is created.

A method of approximation of the respective colors of pixels of a digital image by selecting, from a look-up table and successively for each pixel of the image, a color, the code of which comes close with the smallest error to the sum of the code of the current pixel color and of a correction term, in which the correction term is equal to the smallest error calculated upon approximation of a preceding pixel, assigned with a weighting coefficient depending on the position of the current pixel in the image.

Transforming digital images including luminance data relating to points with first coordinates and chrominance data relating to points with second coordinates is performed. More particularly, the transforming is performed where one of the luminance data and the chrominance data is more numerous than the other. This is done by processing the least numerous data by filtering to obtain least numerous data relating to points with identical coordinates to those of the most numerous data.

A digital image processing circuit for replacing an input code associated with a pixel of the image with an output code selected in a first memory containing a set of codes, including an input bus for receiving the input code, an output bus for providing the output code, said first memory, means of address calculation of the first memory, means of address selection of the first memory between the input code and an address code generated by the address calculation means, a second memory for containing an address code generated by the address calculation means, and means of selection of the output code between a code read from the first memory and said code contained in the second memory.
