An abrasive tool can have a body including an abrasive portion with abrasive grains contained within a matrix material. A first reinforcing member can be contained within the body. The body can also include a porosity variation difference through at least half of a thickness of the body of not greater than 250% from a mean porosity of the body.

A dressable bonded abrasive article has a body that includes a bond material comprising an organic material and a blend of abrasive particles. The particles include a first type of abrasive particle comprising an oxide and having a first hardness and a first toughness; a second type of abrasive particle comprising an oxide and having a second hardness greater than the first hardness, and the second type of abrasive particle has a second toughness less than the first toughness; and a third type of abrasive particle comprising an oxide and having a third hardness greater than the first hardness and less than the second hardness, and the third type of abrasive particle has a third toughness less than the first toughness.

Dressable bonded abrasive article

An abrasive tool having a body including an abrasive portion having abrasive grains contained within a matrix material and porosity characterized by a bimodal distribution of pores including large pores having an average large pore size (P) and small pores having an average small pore size (P), wherein P&#x3e;P. The body of the abrasive tool further includes a first reinforcing member contained within the abrasive portion, and a percent thermal expansion over a temperature range for 25&#xb0; C. to 450&#xb0; C. of not greater than about 0.7%.

Abrasive tool having controlled porosity distribution

Bonded abrasive tools, e.g., grinding wheels, can be reinforced using, for instance, one or more fiberglass web(s) having a surface of glass per unit of at least 0.2. Alternatively or in addition, the fiberglass web has a thickness of 2 mm or less. The web can be designed to provide improved adhesion between the fiberglass reinforcement and the mixture employed to form the bonded abrasive tool. In some examples, the middle reinforcement at the neutral zone of the wheel can be eliminated or minimized.
