Operating a camera-based interior monitoring system involves configuring, depending on the evaluated sensor signals, parameters for setting the interior monitoring system. A computing unit executes at least two applications, each requiring a different configuration value for a parameter in a certain operating situation. A current application rank order for a current operating situation is established and the configuration value for the first parameter required by the application having the higher rank is set as a target configuration. For each application, configuration values of parameters are accorded a significance. A further parameter is configured according to the target configuration of a subordinate application if the significance of the configuration value of the target configuration of the further parameter of the subordinate application is greater than the significance of the configuration value of the target configuration of the parameter of the superordinate application.

Interior monitoring system and method for operating same, and vehicle comprising such an interior monitoring system

A device includes a camera that detects image data of the head and eyes of the vehicle user. An image data evaluating unit determines, using the detected image data, positions of the eyes or the current viewing direction of the vehicle user. Control equipment generates a signal that activates a light source when the current positions of the eyes or the viewing direction is not determinable. The light source has one or more individual light sources arranged so that the one or more individual light sources can only be discerned by the vehicle user or discerned simultaneously if the user's eyes, a vehicle user's eye positions and/or a current viewing direction of the vehicle user are clearly detectable.

A method for activating a cleaning mode of a touch-operable button of a motor vehicle involves switching the button to at least partially inactive in the cleaning mode to avoid an unintentional actuation. A camera monitors the button and detection of an actuation activating the cleaning mode is carried out by recognizing a cleaning implement guided by a hand of a user on the button.
