A process for making toner particles is provided. In embodiments, a suitable process includes melt mixing a resin in the absence of an organic solvent, optionally adding a surfactant to the resin, adding to the resin at least one colorant and other optional toner additives, adding to the resin a basic agent and water to form a mixture, and subjecting the mixture to acoustic mixing at a suitable frequency to form to form an emulsion. A phase inversion may then be performed to create a phase inversed emulsion including a disperse phase comprising molten resin and the optional ingredients of the toner composition, at which time toner-sized droplets may be solidified from the disperse phase into toner particles, which can be recovered for use.

Solvent-free emulsion process using acoustic mixing

An ink set including at least two inks. A first ink includes an optional colorant, a first multi-functional monomer, a second multi-functional monomer that is different from the first multi-functional monomer, and a peroxide initiator comprising a thermal free radical initiator. A second ink includes an optional colorant, a first multi-functional monomer, a second multi-functional monomer that is different from the first multi-functional monomer, and an amine activator having a catalyst which catalyzes the homolytic cleavage of the thermal free-radical initiator at low temperatures into radicals. The first ink is free of the amine activator and the second ink is free of the peroxide initiator. The first multi-functional monomer and the second multi-functional monomer accelerate reaction kinetics through a Trommsdorff effect. The components are each present in an amount relative to the other that provides a) early onset of gelation that accelerates polymerization, and b) an ink viscosity that is suitable for jetting from an ink jet printer.

Reactive ink components and methods for forming images using reactive inks

A process for making a resin emulsion suitable for use in forming toner particles is provided. In embodiments, a suitable process includes melt mixing a resin in the absence of an organic solvent, optionally adding a surfactant to the resin, adding to the resin a basic agent and water, and subjecting the resin, basic agent and water to acoustic mixing at a suitable frequency to form an emulsion of resin particles. In embodiments, the resin emulsion thus produced may be utilized to form a toner.

Solvent-free emulsion process

The present disclosure provides processes for reducing the particle size of latex resins and toners produced with such resins. In embodiments, a gel latex may be formed as a seed particle and then utilized to form latex resins and toner particles. In accordance with the present disclosure, one may be able to utilize materials for the production of latex resins and toners which may otherwise produce particles that are too large in the absence of the gel latex.

Toner compositions

Disclosed herein are emulsion aggregation toner particles having less than about 15 atomic percent oxygen in relation to a total atomic percent of 100 for all elements on the surface thereof. Such toner particles exhibit lower marks on print defects.

System and method for producing arylamine compounds

A toner composition having toner particles comprising a gel latex, a high Tg latex, a wax, and a colorant. The gel latex is present in an amount of from about 3 weight percent to about 30 weight percent of the toner composition, the high Tg latex is present in an amount of from about 50 weight percent to about 95 weight percent of the toner composition, the wax is present in an amount of from about 2 weight percent to about 40 weight percent of the toner composition, and the colorant is present in an amount of from about 1 weight percent to about 25 weight percent of the toner composition.

A reactive ink set including three mixtures of radically polymerizable monomers. A first mixture includes a peroxide, a second mixture includes a peroxide decomposition agent, and an optional third mixture that does not include a peroxide or a peroxide decomposition agent. The first mixture and the second mixture polymerize to form a solid ink on the substrate following jetting in the liquid state.

Toner compositions include a non cross linked resin; a cross linked resin or gel; a wax; and a colorant. Processes for preparing a toner include mixing a non-cross linked resin and a cross-linked resin or gel in the presence of a wax, a colorant, and a coagulant to provide toner size aggregates; adding additional non-cross linked latex to the formed aggregates thereby providing a shell over the formed aggregates; heating the shell covered aggregates to form toner; and, optionally, isolating the toner.

Disclosed herein are toner particles generated by emulsion/aggregation processes. The processes are conducted under conditions that shorten the time for coalescence and post-formation washing, thereby increasing efficiency of the processes as compared to conventional processes.

Toner processes

A process for preparing nanoscale azo pigment particles includes providing an organic pigment precursor that contains at least one functional moiety, providing a sterically bulky stabilizer compound that contains at least one functional group, and carrying out a chemical reaction to form a pigment composition in a microreactor or micromixer, whereby the functional moiety found on the pigment precursor is incorporated within the pigment and non-covalently associated with the functional group of the stabilizer, so as to allow the formation of nanoscale-sized pigment particles and the production of such in a microreactor under laminar or turbulent flow conditions without clogging.

Method of making nanoscale particles of AZO pigments in a microreactor or micromixer

A process for forming an arylamine compound, including reacting an arylamine and an aryl halide in the presence of a palladium ligated catalyst, a base and a suitable solvent in a microreactor.

Microreactor technology to buchwald-hartwig amination

Provided are a latex process and a toner process, both of which include the preparation of a latex having weight average molecular weight of from about 12&#xd7;10to about 24&#xd7;10. The latex is manufactured under monomer-starved polymerization condition such as monomer feeding rate equal to or less than 0.516% per minute by weight of the monomer(s) to be fed. The toners prepared according to the present disclosure have gained improved properties such as gloss, fusing performance, crease performance, stripping performance, document offset, vinyl offset, and parent charging etc.

Low molecular weight latex and toner compositions comprising the same

Continuous processes for producing toner compositions are provided utilizing spinning disc reactors, rotating tubular reactors, or combinations thereof.

Toner particles comprise resin, wax and optionally colorants, and the wax is substantially excluded from the interior core of the toner particles. Processes for preparing such toner particles comprise providing an aqueous dispersion of resin particles and optionally colorants, mixing the aqueous dispersion in presence of a coagulant, aggregating to form particles, coalescing to form fused particles, and removing the fused particles from the aqueous dispersion. Wax dispersions can be added either after mixing or during aggregation, so that wax is excluded from the core of the toner particles.
