Electrical conductor comprising a metallic bar (1) jacketed with a sheath (2) made from a metal different from that of the bar, in which the bar (1) exhibits at least one longitudinal groove (3, 3') containing a bead (4, 4') made from the same metal as the sheath (2), welded to the bar (1), and the sheath (2) exhibits an opening opposite the bead (4, 4'), the said opening containing a metallic mass (9, 9') welded to the bead (4, 4') and to the sheath (2). The conductor finds one application in electrodes comprising a metallic plate longitudinally fixed to an electrical conductor.

Bipolar electrode for an electrolyser of the series type, comprising two metal plates (1, 2) arranged in parallel facing each other, an electrically conductive solid mass (3) maintained under pressure between the two plates and a means for heating the solid mass to a temperature which is at least equal to its flow temperature. The bipolar electrode is suitable for electrolysers of the series type, in which sodium chlorate and hydrogen are produced by electrolysis of aqueous sodium chloride solutions.

The electrolyser comprises vertical electrodes (8, 9) and a stack of vertical frames (1, 2) made of a flexible material, deployed freely over the periphery of the electrodes and elastically deformed by compression one against another between two end flanges (3, 4). The invention applies to membrane electrolysers for the electrolysis of aqueous sodium chloride solutions.

Electrolysis cell

An electrolytic cell having a base or bottom wall on which are supported sidewalls enclosing the anodes and cathodes within. A seal is constructed between the sidewalls and bottom wall and on which the sidewalls rest. The seal is constructed as a framework of flat bars of rectangular cross section made of rigid material encased in an envelope made of a resilient material having a U-shaped cross section. The envelope is closed on a portion facing into the interior of the cell and its two side legs are held between the framework and the sidewalls and between the sidewalls and the bottom wall respectively.

Electrolytic cell

A unipolar electrolytic cell having a baseplate and anode plates disposed parallel and substantially vertically. Each anode plate is mounted on at least one anode support fixed to the baseplate and leakproof thereon. Each anode plate is connected to at least one current lead disposed beneath the baseplate. The cathodes of the cell alternate with the anodes. A casing above the baseplate surrounds the anode plates and cathodes. A cover is provided above the casing and conduits for admission of a solution to be electrolyzed and for removal of the products of electrolysis. The current lead rests on a fixed prop and supports an anode support. The anode support passes through the baseplate and support at least a part of the baseplate above the current lead.
