In a lighting package, a printed circuit board supports at least one light emitting die. A light transmissive cover is disposed over the at least one light emitting die. A phosphor is disposed on or inside of the light transmissive dome-shaped cover. The phosphor outputs converted light responsive to irradiation by the at least one light emitting die. An encapsulant substantially fills an interior volume defined by the light-transmissive cover and the printed circuit board.

Embodiments described herein provide systems and methods for promoting plant growth that combine beam angle control with spectral control. In one embodiment, an optical device can be configured to emit multiple colors of light at particular wavelengths. The optical device may also be configured to generate an emission spectrum with multiple peaks. The spectrum can be selected based on stimulating biological processes of a plant.

Plant growth lighting device and method

Embodiments described herein provide optical systems that can mix colors to produce illumination patterns having a large area with uniform color. One embodiment of an optical system can include a set of optical units that each produces an illumination pattern with uniform color and intensity. The optical units are spaced so that the individual illumination patterns overlap to create an overall illumination pattern with an overlap area. In the overlap area, the colors emitted by the individual optical units mix to create a desired color. Embodiments of optical systems can provide beam control so that the optical units emit a high percentage of light in beam.

A white light hybrid illumination system including an amber LED, a red LED, and a phosphor converted LED such as a blue LED chip and a green phosphor, wherein a peak emission difference between the amber and red LED is at least 25 nm. Embodiments of the present techniques provide a related family of phosphors that may be used in lighting systems to generate blue or blue-green light. The phosphors include systems having a general formula of: ((SrM)ACe)(AlSi)OF(I), wherein 0&#x3c;x&#x2266;0.10, 0&#x2266;y&#x2266;0.5, 0&#x2266;z&#x2266;0.5, 0&#x2266;w&#x2266;x, A is Li, Na, K, Rb, or Ag or any combinations thereof, and M is Ca, Ba, Mg, Zn, or Sn or any combinations thereof. Advantageously, phosphors made accordingly to these formulations maintain emission intensity across a wide range of temperatures. The phosphors may be used in lighting systems, such as LEDs and fluorescent tubes, among others, to produce blue and blue/green light. Further, the phosphors may be used in blends with other phosphors, or in combined lighting systems, to produce white light suitable for illumination.

Blue-green and green phosphors for lighting applications

An edge lit illumination system is directed to providing backlighting utilizing a luminescent impregnated lightguide. The apparatus includes an LED radiation source providing a first radiation and a lightguide optically coupled to the LED radiation source including a luminescent material embedded or coated on an output surface of the lightguide designed to absorb the first radiation, and emit one or more radiations. The illumination system may further include additional optical components such as reflective layers, for directing radiation striking the back surfaces of the light guide back into the lightguide, as well as diffusion layers, UV reflectors, and polarizers.

Provided are a lighting device, a backlighting device, and a display device that comprise a radiation source such as LED and wavelength converting members comprising phosphors. In one embodiment, self-absorption within the devices is suppressed or reduced by placing a selective reflector between two wavelength converting members, and the wavelength converting member emitting light with longer peak wavelength is substantially isolated from the irradiation of another wavelength converting member emitting light with shorter peak wavelength. In other embodiments, the wavelength converting members are arranged in strip configuration; or in adjacent hexagons configuration.
