A radio base station, RBS () of a wireless communication network indicates to a wireless device () where in the time and/or frequency domain to perform radio quality measurements. If the RBS () determines that one or more wireless devices () (including those that are idle) are in risk of performing deteriorated quality measurements, it refrains from scheduling beamformed downlink data in the time/frequency region where the wireless devices () perform quality measurements when the reference signals (e.g., Cell Specific Reference Signals, or CRS) are broadcast. This avoids deterioration of the RSRQ due to beamforming gain, and allows existing legacy features that rely on RSRQ to continue to function as originally intended. The restriction is only on beamformed data—the transmission of non-beamformed data in the relevant bandwidth is already accounted for in the use of RSRQ measurements.

Selective restriction in beamformed transmission scheduling

Disclosed is a method for improving system performance in a wireless communication network comprising one or more network cells. Each network cell comprises one or more transmission points transmitting cell specific information. The method comprises determining () whether a first TRxP comprised in a first network cell fulfills a utilization criterion. When it is determined that the first TRxP fulfills the utilization criterion () the method further comprises gathering () utilization statistics associated with the first TRxP and/or with the first network cell, evaluating () the gathered utilization statistics and determining (), based on the evaluated utilization statistics, whether moving the first TRxP to a second network cell will improve overall system performance of the wireless communication network. Automatic transmission point handling in a wireless communication network

The present invention relates to a source node, a target node and methods for supporting re-distribution of load from a source cell to a target cell in a wireless network, wherein the target cell is a combined cell comprising a plurality of spatially separated sectors that are configured for downlink and/or uplink communication on a same carrier frequency. Performed in the source node, the method comprises receiving, from the target node, a load report comprising traffic load in one or more of the plurality of spatially separated target sectors comprised in the target cell. Reference signal measurements defining radio conditions for one or more of the target sectors comprised in the target cell are retrieved from one or more wireless devices served by the source node.

Inter-frequency load balancing

There is provided mechanisms for location based mobility measurement activation. A method is performed by a network node. The network node is configured to provide network access in a first cell. The method comprises determining, according to information of at least one measurement area, whether wireless devices are to perform mobility measurements for a possible handover to another network node or not. Each of the at least one measurement area has a dynamically changeable size. The size depends on position dependent events of the wireless devices in the first cell. The method comprises providing mobility measurement activation instructions to the wireless devices in the first cell in response thereto.

Location based mobility measurement activation

A method for assisting in a cell re-selection procedure in a cellular communication system comprises obtaining (S) of information comprising radio conditions and/or user equipment population related to at least a serving cell and optionally also related to at least one neighbor cell to the serving cell. The obtained information is compared (S) with a criterion for enforced cell re-selection procedure. If the criterion for enforced cell re-selection procedure is fulfilled by the obtained information, an enforcement of, or an action for increasing the probability for causing, a cell re-selection procedure of at least one user equipment within the serving cell is initialized (S). Devices for performing such a method are also disclosed.
