Methods and apparatus for customizing the audio parameters of a networked voice communications device (NVCD) are presented. One method includes receiving a settings file, determining a group parameter, extracting at least one audio control parameter from the settings file based upon the group parameter, deriving audio processing parameters based upon a value selected from the at least one audio control parameter, and controlling the audio characteristics of the networked voice communications device using the audio processing parameters. An apparatus having audio characteristics configured by a settings file is also presented, which includes a processor, and memory which is functionally coupled to the processor, where the memory stores a group parameter and executable instructions, and the executable instructions cause the processor to control the audio characteristics of the networked voice communications device based upon the group parameter.

Methods and apparatus for customizing the audio characteristics of networked voice communications devices

An apparatus and methods are disclosed that provide a plurality of telecommunications management features to a telecommunications terminal that is associated with a corresponding terminal through a private branch exchange. In particular, the illustrative embodiment enables a user to manage the simultaneous use of and interaction between associated telecommunications terminals. This capability can be particularly advantageous when on-premises telecommunications terminals are associated with off-premises telecommunications terminals.

Private branch exchange that manages interactions between associated telecommunications terminals

A telecommunications endpoint and method are disclosed that involve the monitoring of a conference call by the endpoint, on behalf of a call participant who is either at the endpoint or elsewhere, and the prompting of the participant when his/her presence is needed. The monitoring of the call involves determining whether certain phrases that are relevant to and initialized by the participating endpoint user are spoken during the call. Such phrases might comprise the user's name, the name of a relevant project, the name of a relevant work item, and so forth. At a point in the call when one of the phrases has been spoken, the endpoint prompts the user of the event and provides relevant information that enables the user to refocus attention towards the call.

Telecommunications endpoint that prompts a user to focus on a monitored call

A method is disclosed that enables a user of one telecommunications terminal that is engaged in a call to move or 'extend' the call to a second telecommunications terminal without notifying any other party on the call of the move. This is particularly useful in many situations. For example, the user might be at work and engaged in a call with a client on the user's wireline desk telephone. If the user needs to leave the office, the user can extend the call to his or her cell phone, while the call is in progress, without notifying the client. This enables the user to leave the office and continue the call on his or her cell phone without having the client ever know that the user is on his or her cell phone and not in the office.

Methods and apparatus for controlling the audio characteristics of a networked voice communications device (NVCD) are presented. One method presented includes receiving a settings file, extracting at least one audio control parameter from the settings file, deriving audio processing parameters based upon a value selected from the at least one audio control parameter, and controlling the audio characteristics of the networked voice communications device using the audio processing parameters and the at least one audio control parameter. A method for providing audio parameters to an NVCD is also presented which includes establishing a settings file, which includes at least one audio control parameter, receiving a request to send the settings file, and sending the settings file over a network to the networked voice communications device.

Methods and apparatus for controlling audio characteristics of networked voice communications devices

The subject matter provides a method that enable detecting if a party engaged into a tele-conference call is attempting to engage into conversation while a microphone is in a mute mode. The method provides receiving of a signal. The signal is then analyzed to determining if a party is attempting to engage into conversation. If it is determined that the party is attempting to engage in the conversation then an alarm is transmitted indicating the mode of operation of the microphone. The transmitted alarm may be an audio alert or a visual alert.

Telecommunications-terminal mute detection

A wireless handset or other communication device includes a user interface implemented with a display and a number of select buttons. The display provides an array of identifiers arranged in rows and columns, with the identifiers corresponding generally to lines or functions of a communication system. The display also provides a status indication for each of the identifiers. A status indicator for a line identifier may indicate whether the corresponding line is in use by the handset user, in use by another system user, or idle, while a status indicator for a function identifier may indicate whether the function is activated or deactivated by the handset user. The assignment of identifiers to lines or functions may be in accordance with a mapping from a wired system, and the status information may be supplied to the handset from a switch of the wired system. The handset includes at least one row select button for selecting a particular one of the rows of identifiers provided in the display, and at least one column select button for selecting a particular one of the columns of identifiers. The selection of a particular row and column indicates selection of a line or function associated with the corresponding identifier. The display may be configured such that all of the identifiers and the state of their corresponding status indicators are visible to the user whenever the handset is on.
