Irrigants to be used with vibratory scaling apparatus and lavage are provided. The irrigants of the invention are characterized in that they contain medicaments for the treatment of conditions in the mouth and have a viscosity and deliquescence adapted to substantially optimize the efficiency of the apparatus. The irrigants are formulated so that they have minimal stickiness on drying, minimal foaming and do not gum-up the apparatus in which they are used. Also provided is a method for treating dental diseases comprising applying the irrigants of the invention through a vibratory scaring apparatus to substantially optimize the efficiency of said apparatus and to substantially optimize destruction and removal of infectious bacteria using said apparatus and the removal or inactivation of endotoxins derived from bacteria or the host.

Novel processes for the restoration of teeth particularly posterior teeth, wherein the use of a matrix band is required, are provided employing one component, packable, actinic light curable, resin-based restorative compositions. Such methods are now capable, for the time, of employing resin-based restoratives in the posterior restoration of teeth wherein the packability of the restorative composition enable the deformation of a matrix to allow substantial restoration of the original conformation of the tooth. Packable one component actinic light curable resin-based restorative compositions are provided.

A capsule-like cartridge comprising a cylindrical body of uniform diameter open at one end and provided with an annular flange surrounding the open end, the other end being closed by an integral hemi-spherical end of the same radius as said body and provided with an angularly extending discharge nipple communicating with the interior of the hemi-spherical end and body. After the body is loaded with a precisely measured quantity of material, the open end is closed by a plug slidably movable along said body when one end is engaged by a plunger of no greater diameter than said plug and the opposite end being complementary in shape to the hemi-spherical end of the body, whereby the plunger is capable of discharging the entire measured amount of material in the body except the scintilla thereof lodged in the nipple. The body and plug are molded from opaque material impervious to the passage of light and the tip of the nipple is closed by a cap which may be color-coded to indicate various facts as kind of material, weight or quantity, or otherwise.

A manually operable ejector holder for a loaded capsule-like cartridge of cylindrical shape open at one end and provided with an annular flange at the open end, the other end being closed but provided with an angular discharge nipple and the holder having a cylindrical body provided with an ejecting plunger operated by a pivoted lever-type handle member. The forward end of the cylindrical body being partially cutaway in a radial direction for a limited distance longitudinally to provide a hollow seat to receive the flanged end of the cartridge and the seat having an undercut groove to receive the flange of said cartridge, and the sidewalls of the seat at the upper edges being of limited flexibility and spaced apart a slightly less distance than the diameter of the cartridge body to effect a limited snap-acting connection of the cartridge to the holder.
