An automatic antenna impedance matching method for a radiofrequency transmission circuit. An impedance matching network is inserted between an amplifier and an antenna. The output current and voltage of the amplifier and their phase difference are measured by a variable measurement impedance, and the complex load impedance of the amplifier is deduced from this; the impedance of the antenna is calculated as a function of this complex impedance and as a function of the known current values of the impedances of the matching network. Starting from the value found for the impedance of the antenna, new values of the matching network are calculated that allow the load to be matched to the nominal impedance of the amplifier. The measurement impedance has a value controllable by the calculation processor according to the application and notably as a function of the operating frequency and of the nominal impedance of the amplifier.

The current i and output (resp. input) voltage V of the amplifier and their phase shift are measured, the complex impedance defined by V/i is deduced; the impedance of the antenna is calculated as a function of this complex impedance and the known existing values of the adjustable impedances of the matching network. New adjustable values of impedances of the matching network to obtain a desired overall load impedance for the amplifier are calculated on the basis of the calculated antenna impedance value, and the matching network is controlled to adjust the adjustable impedances to these new values. The measurement is made at a measurement frequency different from the working frequency to allow automatic matching without interrupting normal operation of the chain.

Radiofrequency emission or reception chain with automatic impedance adaptation, and corresponding method

The invention relates to a method for automatically matching the antenna impedance for a radiofrequency transmission circuit having an amplifier. An impedance matching network is inserted between the amplifier and the antenna. The output current i and voltage V from the amplifier and their phase shift are measured, and from this the complex impedance, defined by V/i, is deduced. The antenna impedance is calculated as a function of this complex impedance and as a function of the known present values of the adjustable impedances of the matching network. New values are calculated, from the calculated value of the antenna impedance, for the adjustable impedances of the matching network that allow an overall load impedance of the amplifier to be obtained which is as close as possible to the nominal load impedance Zof the amplifier, and the matching network is controlled to adjust the adjustable impedances to these new values.

Method for automatic impedance matching for a radiofrequency circuit and transmission or reception system with automatic matching

The voltage controlled oscillator comprises an oscillating system wherein two variable capacitors are alternately connected. The capacitances of these two capacitors vary respectively in the same direction as the voltage that is applied thereto and in the opposite direction. Replacing one variable capacitor by the other is performed automatically when the output frequency of the oscillator reaches a predetermined switching value. It is thus possible to divide an operating frequency band of the oscillator into at least two parts in which the frequency varies alternately in the same direction as the control voltage of the oscillator and in the opposite direction. Switchable fixed capacitors can be connected in the oscillating system, either when one variable capacitor is replaced by the other or by means of a command, to make the oscillator switch from one frequency band to a lower band.

Voltage controlled oscillator

The voltage controlled oscillator comprises an amplifier and an oscillating system comprising an inductor and a first and second variable capacitor connected in series, each having a capacitance varying according to its control voltage. The capacitance of one of the variable capacitors varies in the same direction as its control voltage and the capacitance of the other variable capacitor varies in the opposite direction to its control voltage. A capacitor having a fixed capacitance can be connected in series or in parallel with the first and second variable capacitors. The first and second variable capacitors are preferably formed by transistors, respectively of PMOS and NMOS type. An additional series of additional first and second variable capacitors can be connected in parallel with the first and second variable capacitors.
