A programmer device includes an interface that communicates with an implantable fluid delivery device and a user interface that allows a user to troubleshoot a catheter connected to the fluid delivery device by measuring a pressure associated with the catheter. A processor may compare the measured pressure waveform to a previously-acquired waveform or the user interface may display the measured pressure waveform for the user to compare the displayed pressure waveform to a previously-acquired baseline waveform. The comparison between the two waveforms may be based on the pressure decay time. A historical log of measured pressure decays associated with the catheter may be maintained by the programmer device or the implantable fluid delivery device and displayed for the user to determine whether the performance of the catheter is deteriorating.

Monitoring conditions of an implantable medical fluid delivery device

Transdermal insertion of a transcutaneous filling apparatus, for the purpose of filling a fill chamber of an implanted therapy delivery device, is monitored by measuring each impedance between pairs of electrodes of a needle of the apparatus, and comparing each to a threshold impedance; the electrodes, preferably at least three in number, are isolated and spaced apart from one another along a length of the needle. A confirmation signal is generated when at least one of the measured impedances is greater than the threshold impedance, and another is less than the threshold, the condition indicating that one of the electrodes is located within a non-conductive septum, through which the apparatus must pass to access the fill chamber. A detection circuit, which may be located in a housing of the apparatus that is attached to a proximal end of the needle, measures and compares the impedances.

A method for evaluating dosing from an implanted infusion system that includes receiving input regarding the identity of a therapeutic agent into an external device. The method further includes displaying on the external device a predetermined set of symptoms associated with the therapeutic agent; receiving input into the external device regarding with which of the symptoms the patient presents; and determining whether the therapeutic agent is being delivered, or has been delivered, at an appropriate dose based on the input identity of the therapeutic agent and the input symptoms.

Evaluating dosing from an implantable infusion device

A fluid delivery system comprises a pump configured to deliver a therapeutic agent to a patient, a memory storing a therapy program defining the delivery of the therapeutic agent to the patient by the pump and a default infusion schedule based on the therapy program, and a processor configured to control the pump to deliver the therapeutic agent to the patient according to the therapy program, to determine an error condition that prevents the pump from continuing to deliver therapy according to the therapy program, and, upon determination of the error condition, to control the pump to deliver the therapeutic agent to the patient according to the default infusion schedule.

System and method for delivering a therapeutic agent according to default infusion schedule

An implantable medical device is capable of delivering the therapeutic output to the patient. A controller, programmable by a medical professional, is operatively coupled to the implantable medical device to, in part, program the therapeutic output to be delivered to the patient. The controller has an interface allowing the medical professional to select an amount of the therapeutic output to be delivered to the patient in at least one of the series of discrete timer intervals. However, the therapeutic output deliver to the patient is dependant upon the clock time to which the infusion device. In certain situations the infusion device clock time may have inaccuracies that grow over time. The clock time can be reset by the infusion programmer but a method must be in place to determine and account for resetting the infusion device clock time that controls when the therapy will be delivered.
