Various technologies described herein pertain to controlling floating diffusion gain using a charge pump. Feedback can be utilized to control impedance of a floating diffusion region of a pixel of an image sensor, which further includes a read bus and an amplifier. The pixel includes a capacitor and a floating diffusion region, which has an intrinsic floating diffusion capacitance. The capacitor includes a first terminal and a second terminal, where the first terminal is coupled to the floating diffusion region. The amplifier includes an input terminal and an output terminal. The input terminal of the amplifier is coupled to the read bus and the output terminal of the amplifier is coupled to the second terminal of the capacitor. Gain of the amplifier is adjustable to control an equivalent capacitance of the floating diffusion region. Alteration of the equivalent capacitance can modify conversion gain and dynamic range of the pixel.

An image sensor, system and method that alternates sub-sets of pixels with long exposure times and pixels with short exposure times on the same sensor to provide a sensor having improved Wide Dynamic Range (WDR). The sub-sets of pixels are reset at different time intervals after being read, which causes the respective integration times to vary. By combining information contained in the both the short and long integration pixels, the dynamic range of the sensor is improved.

Systems and methods are provided that facilitate reducing noise within sampled video information in a CMOS sensor imager. A multi-capacitor sample and hold can capture multiple samples of video information during at least partially overlapping time intervals. The multi-capacitor sample and hold can include a plurality of capacitors and a plurality of sampling switches, wherein each of the sampling switches can be coupled to a respective one of the plurality of capacitors. The plurality of sampling switches can be closed at a substantially concurrent time to begin capturing samples with the plurality of capacitors. Thereafter, the plurality of sampling switches can each be opened at respective disparate times to collect differing noise samples with each of the plurality of capacitors. A readout component can combine (e.g., average) the samples obtained by the plurality of capacitors, thereby reducing noise levels.
