The invention describes a lighting assembly and a lighting device with improved thermal behavior and a method to manufacture such a lighting assembly comprising at least one point-like light source having a first and a second electrical contact, a lead frame having metal areas to electrically connect at least the first electrical contact and to spread heat from the point-like light sources via the metal areas, and a plastic layer arranged at least on top of the lead frame. One or more conductive traces are applied on a first surface of the plastic layer facing away from the lead frame to electrically insulate the conductive traces on the plastic layer from the metal areas of the lead frame. Additional components or the second electrical contact might be connected to the conductive traces.

Lighting assembly with improved thermal behaviour

A biometric identification system and a method for biometric authentication are described. A biometric authentication system includes at least one light source comprising at least one of a vertical surface emitting laser (VCSEL) or a VCSEL array configured to provide an illumination beam when the biometric authentication system is turned on. The system also includes an optical element configured to broaden the illumination beam and direct the illumination beam towards the portion of the object so as to generate at least one corresponding image response. The system also includes an image sensing unit configured to receive the at least one corresponding image response, capture a speckle pattern in the image response and form at least one of a computer readable image or data representing a speckle contrast in the speckle pattern.

Laser speckle analysis for biometric authentication

A lighting module and a lighting assembly provide high irradiance at long working distances. The lighting module includes at least two rows of multiple LEDs separated from each other by an intermediate area between the rows and one integral optical element on top of the at least two rows of multiple LEDs. The one integral optical element includes one collimator lens portion per row of LEDs extending along the row of LEDs. The collimator lens portions of different rows are merged together above the intermediate area. The collimator lens portions, seen in a direction perpendicular to the at least two rows, provide an off-axis focus for the one collimator lens portion, and focus light emitted from the at least two rows of multiple LEDs in a focus line extending parallel to the rows of LEDs at a focus distance above the optical element.

Lighting assembly with high irradiance

An illumination module comprises a semiconductor light source and a light guide, which comprises a solid body with essentially parallel entry and exit faces and side faces extending between the entry and exit faces; and wherein the entry face receives light emitted by the semiconductor light source; the exit face is offset from the entry face and the area of the exit face exceeds the area of the entry face; a first side face comprises a uniform plane subtending an angle of inclination to the entry face; a second side face, opposite to the first side face, comprises a plurality of offset sub-faces, each sub-face subtends an angle of inclination relative to the entry face; and the inclined faces are formed so that the direction of light leaving the exit face is essentially the same as the direction of light entering the entry face.

Illumination module

A process and apparatus for producing distinguishable light, in the presence of ambient light is disclosed. The process involves admitting light in a first wavelength band through a first light admission port into a first optical cavity at least partially defined by a first reflector operably configured to reflect light out of the first optical cavity. The process also involves filtering ambient light reflected into the first optical cavity and entering and exiting a first space defined about the first light admission port such that ambient light outside the first wavelength band is attenuated on entry and exit from the first space.

Producing distinguishable light in the presence of ambient light

An LED backlight structure for setting voltages and currents for LEDs. Red LEDs are connected in series between a first voltage regulator and a first controllable current source, green LEDs are connected in series between a second voltage regulator and a second controllable current source, blue LEDs are connected in series between a third voltage regulator and a third controllable current source. The current sources may be linear current regulators controlled to balance the three colors to achieve a target light output of the board using a light detection chamber. PWM controllers control transistor switches connected in parallel across groups of LEDs, where the duty cycles set the average current through each group of LEDs. The control values used to achieve target light characteristics are stored in memory. The PWM controller may control brightness levels of the LEDs. The backlight may be for an LCD television.
