A structure including a first layer of one or more molecular components having a first top anchor group, a first functional moiety and a first bottom anchor group. The first functional moiety connects the first top anchor group to the first bottom anchor group. The structure further includes a first conductive film of one or more nanoparticles disposed on the first layer of one or more molecular components. Each of at least a portion of the one or more nanoparticles bond with the first top anchor group of the one or more molecular components. Each of at least a portion of the one or more nanoparticles cross-link with at least one other of the nanoparticles. The first conductive film forms a first contact for the first layer of one or more molecular components.

Contacting molecular components

One or more embodiments of the present invention are directed to a photovoltaic system. The system comprises photovoltaic cells, arranged side-by-side to form an array of photovoltaic cells. It further involves a cooling device, which comprises one or more layers, wherein the layers extend opposite to the array of photovoltaic cells and in thermal communication therewith, for cooling the cells, in operation. The one or more layers are structured such that a thermal resistance of the photovoltaic system varies across the array of photovoltaic cells, so as to remove heat from photovoltaic cells of the array with different heat removal rates, in operation. One or more embodiments of the present invention are further directed to related systems and methods for cooling such photovoltaic systems.

Photovoltaic system with non-uniformly cooled photovoltaic cells

The present invention is notably directed to a photovoltaic module, or PV module, comprising an array of photovoltaic cells, or PV cells, and electrical interconnects. The array of PV cells comprises N portions, N&#x2265;2, where the portions comprise, each, disjoint sets of PV cells of the array. The electrical interconnects connect the PV cells and the N portions of the array so as for PV cells within each of said portions to be electrically connected in parallel and the N portions to be connected in series. The PV cells and the portions are connected, via said interconnects, so to output an electrical current, in operation. The electrical interconnects are otherwise configured to provide electrical signals from each of the N portions. The invention is further directed to related systems and methods of fabrication and operation.

Photovoltaic module

A method for generating extreme ultraviolet (EUV) radiation employs an EUV apparatus, which comprises one or more sets of nanoscale antennas, designed for electromagnetic field enhancement. The one or more sets comprise, each, at least one pair of opposite antennas separated by a feedgap volume. First cations of same molecular entities are allowed to reach the feedgap volumes and the antennas are energized so as to perform one or more EUV radiation emission cycles, during which the first cations are further ionized via electromagnetic field intensities achieved in the feedgap volumes by optically exciting corresponding pairs of opposite antennas. Second cations are thus obtained, which have a higher charge state than the first cations, and are forced to radiatively decay, by electrically stimulating antenna pairs, whereby EUV radiation is generated and third cations are obtained, which have a lower charge state than the second cations.

Generating extreme ultraviolet radiation with nanoscale antennas

A state-changeable device includes a first and a second particle arranged in proximity to each other; and a coupling material between the first and the second particle; wherein the first and the second particle are adapted to provide a charge carrier distribution such that surface plasmon polaritons (SPP) occur; and the coupling material is adapted to exhibit a variable conductivity in response to a trigger signal thereby changing an electro-optical coupling between the first and the second particle.

State-changeable device

An electromechanical switching device includes a first electrode, comprising layers of a first 2D layered material, which layers exhibit a first surface; a second electrode, comprising layers of a second 2D layered material, which layers exhibit a second surface opposite the first surface; and an actuation mechanism; wherein each of the first and second 2D layered materials has an anisotropic electrical conductivity, which is lower transversely to its layers than in-plane with the layers; the first electrode includes two distinct areas alongside the first surface, which areas differ in at least one structural, electrical and/or magnetic property; and at least one of the first and second electrodes is actuatable by the actuation mechanism, such that actuation thereof for modification of an electrical conductance transverse to each of the first surface and the second surface to enable current modulation between the first electrode and the second electrode.

Electromechanical switching device with electrodes having 2D layered materials with distinct functional areas

A method for forming a contact to a layer of one or more molecular components that comprises depositing one or more nanoparticles on the layer of one or more molecular components. Each of at least a portion of the one or more nanoparticles bond with each of at least a portion of the one or more molecular components. When there is more than one nanoparticle, each of at least a portion of the one and more nanoparticles cross-link with at least one other of the one or more nanoparticles. The bonded and cross-linked nanoparticles form both a mechanical and electrical contact for the layer of molecular components. The contact may further act as protection and sealing layers to preserve the chemical integrity at ambient operation conditions and/or enable mass and ionic exchange.

A method for manufacturing a gap device includes forming a template structure on a substrate, depositing an active material layer on the substrate and on the template structure, wherein the active material layer covers at least top and side surfaces of the template structure, planarizing the active material layer, and selectively removing the template structure with respect to the active material layer and the substrate.

Negative patterning approach for ultra-narrow gap devices

A sensor apparatus is provided for sensing relative position of two objects. First and second molecular components, each comprising at least one electronic system, are connected to respective objects. The molecular components are arranged in mutual proximity such that an interaction between the electronic systems of respective components varies with relative position of the objects, the interaction affecting an electrical or optical property of the components. A detector detects the property to produce an output dependent on relative position of the objects.
