Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for wireless communication with modulation using electromagnetic polarization. In some implementations, a device receives input data to transmit over a wireless communication channel, and the device has a (i) first antenna feed to receive signals for transmission with a first polarization and (ii) a second antenna feed to receive signals for transmission with a second polarization. The device modulates a radiofrequency carrier to generate modulated output that encodes a first subset of the input data, then upconverts the modulated output of the modulator to generate upconverted output. The device varies a polarization with which the upconverted output is transmitted based on a second subset of the input data, such that the input data is transmitted using both (i) modulation of the radiofrequency carrier signal and (ii) variation of the polarization with which the modulated signal is transmitted.

A satellite communication system includes a satellite gateway and a plurality of satellite communication terminals. The satellite gateway includes a satellite communication module that is configured to transmit video content data automatically based on a predetermined condition via a satellite communication network. The satellite communication terminals are disposed at a plurality of remote locations, respectively. The satellite communication terminals each includes a satellite communication module that is configured to receive the video content data from the satellite gateway via the satellite communication network, a memory that is configured to pre-store the video content data prior to a first video content request of the video content data via a local communication network, and a local communication module that is configured to provide the video content data from the memory in response to the first video content request of the video content data via the local communication network.

An apparatus and method for hopping across frequencies in a transmission medium. A communication link is established between multiple devices over a communication medium using a default frequency resource. Signaling information is detected for frequency resources available on the communication medium, and values associated with the signaling information are stored within a logging table. The communication link is monitored for errors and a new frequency resource is selected from the logging table to maintain the communication link, if the errors exceed a predetermined threshold.

In one implementation, a method comprises: initializing, over an interfacility link (IFL) connecting an indoor unit of a satellite terminal and an outdoor Internet Protocol (IP) Radio of the satellite terminal, a communication link between the indoor unit and the outdoor IP Radio; authenticating, using the indoor unit and the outdoor IP Radio, the communication link between the indoor unit and the outdoor IP radio; and after authenticating the communication link, providing satellite network service to the indoor unit via the outdoor IP Radio.

A network device for providing configurable reference frequencies in a satellite communication system is disclosed. The network device may be any of a satellite modem, satellite transceiver, or satellite router. The network device may receive information pertaining to a type of an Outdoor Unit (ODU), determine the type of ODU based on the received information, and provide a plurality of configurable reference frequencies based on the type of the Outdoor Unit (ODU) such that the plurality of configurable reference frequencies may be used with different combinations of low noise block converters (LNBs) and block-up converters (BUCs).

Embodiments for a method and apparatus are described for non-linear noise cancelation and in phase quadrature (I/Q) modulation error correction. The embodiments include receiving a signal, the signal including a plurality of data segments. A first data segment in the received signal is demodulated and decoded to produce a recovered segment of a bitstream. At least one correction factor is applied to a first demodulation support element and a second demodulation support element during demodulation of a second data segment in the received signal. The correction factor is determined based on the received first data segment and a representation of the first data segment reconstructed from the recovered segment of the bitstream.

A satellite modem, a GPS device, and a method are provided. The satellite modem requests current location information from a GPS device and waits no more than a preconfigured amount of time to receive the current location information. When the satellite modem receives the current location information, the satellite modem determines whether the current location information indicates a location in which the satellite modem is authorized to operate. When the satellite modem determines that the current location information indicates a location in which the satellite modem is not authorized to operate, the satellite modem performs at least one action from a group of actions including preventing the satellite modem from operating normally, permitting the satellite modem to operate with a reduced functionality, and transmitting a message to a network management center indicating that the satellite modem is not located at an authorized location.

In some implementations, a method includes identifying multiple users, as a proper subset of users of a satellite communication network, that are each associated with an electronic resource. Satellite terminals of the satellite communication network corresponding to the identified users are identified. Satellite transmission data is generated that includes the electronic resource and designates the identified satellite terminals. A satellite gateway transmits the satellite transmission data over the satellite communication network in a satellite broadcast to the identified satellite terminals, such that the identified satellite terminals can concurrently receive data associated with the electronic resource without sending a request for data associated with the electronic resource.

Reducing bandwidth consumption and latency in satellite communications

Systems and methods are provided for increasing or decreasing the transmission speed of a VSAT used in a satellite network. A VSAT may include an ASIC and an FPGA in a transmission block of the VSAT. The ASIC includes an ASIC transmit modulator configured to modulate an input information signal, and circuitry for bypassing at least a portion of the ASIC transmit modulator. The FPGA includes circuitry for receiving a signal bypassing at least a portion of the ASIC transmit modulator, and an FPGA transmit modulator configured to modulate the bypassed signal. In implementations, the system uses the ASIC to burst format an input information signal with a payload burst segment; bypasses a transmit modulator of the ASIC after burst formatting the input information signal with the ASIC; and uses an FPGA to insert additional burst segments into the ASIC burst-formatted signal.
