A system and method for a single site beacon transceiver including an omni-directional transceiver, a plurality of directional receiving antennas for receiving a signal, and a digital receiver for processing the signal to determine an azimuth to the source of the received signal. The digital receiver includes a plurality of receiver channels that are calibrated periodically and at least one processor that estimates a coarse signal azimuth for the signal by calculating an amplitude monopulse ratio for the signal using the two directional receiving antennas receiving the highest amplitude signal, and estimates a final signal azimuth for the signal using an interferometer baseline between the two directional receiving antennas or, alternately, subtracts the complex ratio of the measurements from the complex ratio of the antenna array RF model to determine the angle corresponding to the minimum of the absolute value of the difference.

A method and system for using a single transceiver to correlate radar position data with target identification data. Two transceivers, operating in round trip delay mode, can be used to provide two possible positions for a given target when radar coverage is lost or unavailable. Three transceivers can be used to provide actual position of a given target using round trip delay data only.

This invention is a system and method of locating a target using distributed antenna. The antenna consists of several receiving elements in known locations. At least one of the receiving elements is also a transmitter and transmits an interrogation signal to a target. The return signal from the target is received by a plurality of receiving elements and the target's position is calculated using the time of arrivals of the reply signal and the round trip delay between the transmission of the interrogation signal and the reception of the subsequent reply signal.

Target localization using TDOA distributed antenna

An apparatus and method for testing of rotating surface based antennas arrays (regardless of their shape), with the capability of fully diagnosing and locating a failure on the face of the antenna by coherently sampling and storing the radiation in the near field and imaging the fully array complex excitation from the stored data. The rotation of the antenna is used in order to collect data for the full azimuth span required for high resolution imaging of excitation in the horizontal domain. Excitation in the vertical domain can be preformed in two ways depending on the type of antenna used. For electronically scanning antennas in elevation (phased array antennas), the phase shifter in the desired row is toggled and the row is isolated by subtracting the complex data from pairs of adjacent samples. The sampling probe is moved vertically while the antenna is rotating horizontally. The vertical movement of the probe provides the aperture necessary to resolve the vertical excitation of the array to a degree of accuracy sufficient for fault detection and isolation.
