Hydrophobic liquid colorant attracts to hydrophobic image areas. The surface layer is contacted an offset receiving member and the image is transferred to an image receiving substrate.

Disclosed are embodiments of a system, method and computer program product for implementing a federated print services network. The embodiments provide a central server that receives external print job requests from customers and, optionally, any backlog of internal print job requests from a participating print shop or any internal print job requests that are outside a participating print shop's current printing capabilities or that exceed the participating print shop's supply inventory. The server can selectively distribute those requests amongst the participating print shops in the network for fulfillment. Distribution is based on printing equipment utilization records in order to balance printing equipment utilization across the network and, if necessary, on printing capability records and/or supply inventory records. Thus, for participating print shops, the embodiments provide a means for increasing equipment utilization percentages during downtimes and, thereby a means to subsidize the cost of ownership. They also provide a means for abating any backlog of print job requests and fulfilling, as necessary, any internal print job requests.

A virtual paymaster application can be configured in association with an EIP (Extensible Interface Platform) enabled multi-function device in order to render the paycheck with respect to an employee. An identification card having a bar code can be placed on a platen of the multi-function device in order to obtain authentication data with respect to the employee upon providing a PIN number via a user interface. The authentication data can be further provided to a remote application server via a network in order to retrieve the payment information with respect to the employee from a payroll database. The paycheck can be locally rendered based on the rendering instructions from the remote application server thereby enhancing the payroll processing within a business environment.

What is provided are a system, method, and computer program product for protecting information displayed on a fax confirmation page. Several embodiments are provided. In one embodiment, for example, a Gaussian kernel is used to blur the digitized image to be printed on the confirmation page. In one method, a large enough blur kernel is selected so that text of a certain size will be rendered illegible. A method is also provided wherein a copy of the first page of the faxed document used to provide the content to be displayed on the confirmation page of the faxed document is stored on a storage device. A character sequence which references the stored original content on the storage media is printed on the confirmation page. A new confirmation page can be reconstructed and printed if it is desirable to have the altered content made visibly legible. Various other embodiments are disclosed.

Methods and systems provide a user with an option, on a graphic user interface of a printing device, for scanning a self-illuminated display of a portable device (such as a cell phone, PDA, camera, etc.). In response to the user selecting the option for scanning a self-illuminated display of their portable device, the illumination source of the printing device is deactivated and the responsiveness of the light sensor of the printing device is increased. The process of increasing of the responsiveness of the light sensor changes the responsiveness to an increased level above a base level that is used when the illumination source is active. Then, while the illumination source is deactivated and while the responsiveness of the light sensor is at the increased level, the light sensor is used to scan the self-illuminated display of the portable device to acquire an image displayed on the self-illuminated display of the portable device.

Devices and methods herein receive a command into a computerized device to perform a printing draft operation of a printable item using a reduced amount of marking material (a reduced amount of ink, toner, etc.). The methods herein evaluate at least two different regions of the printable item to determine spatial frequencies of the different regions, and calculate at least two marking material reduction values for the different regions of the printable item based on the spatial frequencies of the different regions. Then, the methods herein apply the marking material reduction values to the printable item to produce a file containing reduced marking material printing commands for a printing device to print the printable item.

A system and method for generating a test and an answer key to identify correct answers is disclosed. A test can be created by entering a set of questions with answer choices and correct answers at the same time. The tests can be rendered via a rendering device that includes both the questions and the answer choices. A ticket can be generated that drives a CNC (computer numerically control) machine to create a punched answer key with holes that align over correct answers. The answer key can also be rendered on a transparency utilizing a solid color everywhere except an area where the correct answer should be marked. The test and the answer key can also be rendered and aligned side by side in order to identify correct answers.

A system and method for determining whether a printing device is operating properly may include determining, by a computing device, whether a protocol is supported by a printing device. Using the supported protocol, implementation information may be transmitted to the printing device. Response information may be received from the printing device. A result based on the response information may be reported. The result may be indicative of the operation of the protocol on the printing device.
