A dual blade laryngoscope having a folding handle and a manually installable lighting cartridge. The laryngoscope includes two spaced apart parallel blades and a wall spanning both. A slot is formed at one end of the parallel blades for receiving the lighting cartridge. A translucent or transparent lens covers a visualization channel defined between the parallel blades. The folding handle includes an axle to enable pivoting between a deployed position and a stowed position, and a projection which activates the lighting cartridge. The lighting cartridge and the transparent lens are removable. Each of the parallel blades has a curved portion at forward ends thereof to facilitate managing soft tissue and directional control of an endotracheal tube during insertion in a patient. A tooth guard pad of compliant rubber-like material may be permanently affixed to the underside of lower blade.

Illuminated laryngoscope

A dual bladed laryngoscope for quickly and easily intubating a patient. The invention has two blades pivotally hinged on one side while the opposing side is open allowing the laryngoscope to be easily removed after intubating a patient. The proximal end of the upper blade has a grip portion which can be moved closer to or farther away from the handle attached to the proximal end of the lower blade to open or close the distal ends of the lower and upper blades. The lower blade of the invention has a distal end adapted as an esophageal obturator for obstructing the esophagus. An arytenoid bumper to prevent the laryngoscope from penetrating too far into the esophagus is preferably secured to the distal end of the lower blade. The arytenoid bumper may have a ramp or wedge shape adapted to deflect an intubation tube through a patient's larynx and into the trachea. The upper blade optionally has a tongue guard adapted to hold the tongue outside of a channel formed by the lower blade, the tongue guard and the upper blade. A suction conduit is optionally built in or secured to either the lower blade or the upper blade for providing a tube for suctioning secretions or emesis. A suction break is located in the handle of the laryngoscope to allow a finger of the hand holding the laryngoscope to control the presence and intensity of suction.

Dual blade laryngoscope with esophageal obturator

An inexpensive take-home training aid for practicing human cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is contained in a non-humanoid shaped housing. When placed in a prominent location in the home, such as a child's room, the CPR training aid reminds users of the CPR sills they have learned and encourages them to practice with the training aid. The internal mechanism consists of a simulated airway, a compression mechanism, a compression feedback mechanism, a metronome, a breast plate and back plate with simulated anatomical landmarks, and/or an external landmark for identifying the proper location for placing a hand, hands, or fingers on the chest. Voice prompts on the steps of CPR and/or actual CPR performance may also be included. The chest plate and back plate are connected by one or more telescoping posts and a resistance device is between the two plates to simulate the resistance of a human chest to compression. The internal mechanism can be placed in a variety of non-humanoid containers such as a child's teddy bear or other stuffed toy. A CPR student can use the toy or other non-humanoid container to practice CPR during a CPR class and then later at home.

CPR training device

The Chest-positioner/pad Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation System (CCPRS) provides improved resuscitation during one-person or two-person CPR. The simple, compact, portable and cost-effective system provides for manual, mechanical or electrical driven external chest compressions via a socket connection to a chest-positioner/pad unit. The chest-positioner/pad unit provides greater control of compression positioning providing adequate and reproducible chest compressions while preventing rib fractures and damage to vital internal organs. A module gives providers feedback to enable a provider to apply an appropriate compressive force in an appropriate direction, recurringly under emergency conditions. The present invention also provides improved blood circulation, oxygenation and gas exchange by expanding the chest past its normal relaxation point during diastole. Providers are able to administer adequate CPR for longer periods of time with reduced or minimal effort while improving survivability of cardiac arrest victims.
