A disclosed computing device capable of performing self-contained reliability testing may include (1) a cooling device and (2) circuitry communicatively coupled to the cooling device, wherein the circuitry is configured to (A) alternate between periods of high computing activity that increases heat emission and periods of low computing activity that decreases the heat emission and (B) direct the cooling device to decrease cooling power during the periods of high computing activity and increase the cooling power during the periods of low computing activity. Various other apparatuses, systems, and methods are also disclosed.

Apparatus, system, and method for performing self-contained reliability testing on computing devices

A catheter extraction tool has a head that can be placed in position to significantly surround a diameter of a catheter. The head is shaped to have a low enough profile above the catheter to allow the head to be slid down the catheter and into a subdermal region in which the catheter is subdermal with respect to a patient. The head of the catheter extraction tool is expanded sufficiently to slide the head over a catheter cuff located in the subdermal region. After the head of the catheter extraction tool slides over the catheter cuff, the head is contracted to engage the catheter so that a user can pull the catheter out of the patient using the catheter extraction tool.

The disclosed apparatus may include (1) a shoulder bolt that includes (A) a head and (B) a shank, (2) a retention barrel that envelops at least a portion of the shank of the shoulder bolt, (3) a coil spring that envelops at least a portion of the shank of the shoulder bolt and resides between the head of the shoulder bolt and a heatsink, and (4) a travel-limiting component (such as a set screw or a sleeve) that (A) is coupled to the retention barrel and (B) limits the heatsink from travelling linearly beyond a travel threshold via the coil spring. In some embodiments, an apparatus comprises an optical transponder which includes a processor, an electrical interface and an optical interface. The processor is operatively coupled to the electrical interface and the optical interface. The optical interface is configured to be operatively coupled to a plurality of optical links and the electrical interface is configured to be operatively coupled to a router such that the optical transponder is configured to be operatively coupled between the plurality of optical links and the router. The processor is configured to perform pre-forward error correction (FEC) bit error rate (BER) detection to identify a degradation of an optical link from the plurality of optical links. The processor is configured to make modifications to packets designated to be transmitted via the optical link in response to the degradation being identified such that the router is notified of the degradation of the optical link.

A computer-implemented method for prognostic network management may include (1) monitoring a health indicator of a physical component of a device in a network, (2) using the health indicator to estimate a remaining useful life of the physical component, (3) detecting that the remaining useful life of the physical component has reached a predetermined threshold, and (4) reconfiguring the network in response to detecting that the remaining useful life of the physical component has reached the predetermined threshold so that failure of the physical component does not cause the network to become unavailable to any user of the network.
