Disclosed are compositions which are blends of vinylidene chloride-vinyl chloride copolymers with certain indene or 3-methylindene containing polymers.

Vinylidene chloride copolymer compositions

A composition comprising an intimate admixture of (a) 50 to 98 parts by weight of a vinyl chloride polymer having an inherent viscosity of at least 0.4, and (b) 50 to 2 parts by weight of an addition terpolymer containing acrylonitrile, indene and a third monomer selected from methyl methacrylate or at least one monomer of the group .alpha.-methylstryene and vinyl aromatics of the formula: ##STR1## where each R is independently selected from Cl, H and a C.sub.1 to C.sub.9 alkyl group and x=1 or 2, combined in the polymer structure such that

A composition comprising an intimate admixture of (a) 50 to 98 parts by weight of a vinyl chloride polymer having an inherent viscosity of at least 0.4 and (b) 50 to 2 parts by weight of an addition copolymer containing indene and one comonomer selected from acrylonitrile, methyl methacrylate and methacrylonitrile, combined in the polymer structure with indene in the amount of 31.5-70 acrylonitrile, or 37-80 methacrylonitrile, or 46-95 methyl methacrylate, all per 100 parts by weight of indene plus comonomer combined in the polymer structure.

Impact modified polycycloolefin is made by ring opening bulk polymerization of at least one monomer containing at least one norbornene group in the presence of an organoammonium molybdate or tungstate catalyst and an alkoxyalkylaluminum halide cocatalyst as well as a sufficient amount of an impact modifier selected from polyolefin powders and polyvinylidene fluoride powders.

Impact modified polycycloolefins

Impact modified polycycloolefin is made by ring opening bulk polymerization of at least one monomer containing at least one norbornene group in presence of an organoammonium molybdate or tungstate catalyst and an alkoxyalkylaluminum halide cocatalyst as well as a sufficient amount of a polyolefin powder and a rubbery material to produce ductile polycycloolefin.

Impact modified polymers of cycloolefins

A blend of 100 parts by weight of a polycyano norbornene, such as poly)2-norbornene-5 nitrile); 5 to 15 parts of a halogenated polyolefin, such as chlorinated polyethylene; and 10 to 40 parts of an ABS polymer, such as acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene resin. This blend, when formed into a rigid structure, has an unexpectedly higher impact strength.
