A monitoring port for use in measuring the intensity of the ultraviolet radiation within an ultraviolet water purification system. A UV transparent transmitting member is sealably mounted for inward, outward, and rotational movement movement with respect to a UV lamp. A locking arrangement including a tapered elastomeric gripping member and a tapered metal tightening member assures that the transmitting member may be locked in place at any desired distance from the surface of the UV lamp. A positioning arrangement such as distance indicator or a series of positions stops, may be employed to facilitate the positioning of the transmitting member at any of the selected distances.

Monitoring port for ultraviolet water purification systems

A molded one-piece housing for use in fabricating conductivity cells. An electrically nonconducting housing includes an internal partition which divides the interior of the housing into a first region for receiving a test liquid and a second region for receiving a plurality of electrical conductors. Openings through the partition provide passages through which measuring electrodes may project into the first region to establish cell constants of the desired magnitude. These openings are so shaped that they establish a liquid-tight seal between the housing and the electrodes during insertion. By means of this seal the electrodes are held firmly in place during the assembly of the cell. This seal also permits a potting compound to be introduced into the second region without leaking onto and thereby affecting the electrical characteristics of the electrodes.

Molded conductivity cell body

A sensor mechanism for measuring a property of a fluid which must not be allowed to escape into the environment. A sensor housing provides a chamber from which a sensing element may be extended into contact with the fluid to be measured, and into which the sensing element may be retracted prior to being sealed off from the fluid. When the sensing element is in its retracted position, the closure of a valve seals the chamber off from contact with the fluid. A purging inlet and a purging outlet allow the interior of the sensor housing to be purged of traces of fluid trapped therein by the closure of the valve, prior to the time that the sensor housing is disassembled for the servicing or replacement of the sensing element. An improved sealing arrangement allows the interior of the sensor housing to remain sealed off from the environment without the use of sliding seals. An improved cleaning arrangement allows the sensing element to be cleaned without removing it from the sensor housing.

Decontaminating fluid sensor mechanism

An improved hydrazine analyzer is disclosed wherein sample and electrolyte solutions are supplied from constant flow rate sources into a mixing chamber where they are premixed. The premixed combination of electrolyte and sample is then passed through a sensing chamber having a sensing thimble disposed therein. The thimble is of a porous material having a platinum wire electrode wound about the outside thereof and having a silver wire inserted into silver chloride salt on the inside thereof to form a reference half cell. As the electrolyte-sample mixture passes through the sensing chamber, a portion of the fluid passes from the outside of the thimble to the inside of the thimble wetting the silver chloride salt to establish electrical contact and provide the internal filling solution of the reference half cell.

Hydrazine analyzer

Improved apparatus for bringing a fluid in a process stream in contact with a sensor is disclosed. The present invention uses the kinetic energy of the process fluid to convey some of the fluid to and from the sensor, as opposed to the prior art practice of inserting the sensor itself into the process fluid stream. A nozzle is placed into the process fluid stream facing into the direction of flow. A small portion of the flowing process fluid is trapped by the nozzle and some of its kinetic energy is converted to pressure. This pressure causes a flow from the nozzle into a conduit through an open valve to the sensor. The fluid continues past the sensor and returns to the process fluid stream through the same valve. In one embodiment, the path for incoming fluid and exiting fluid are separate paths. In a second embodiment, the incoming fluid and exiting fluid exist coaxially.

Fluid sampling apparatus

An electrode housing for a fluid conductivity cell contains a chamber in which electrodes are securely positioned, the walls of the housing being electrically nonconducting and having at least one chamber duct penetrating the walls of the housing for the ingress and egress of fluid to be measured. The chamber duct is located relative to the electrodes such that it is substantially coincident with at least a portion of a line of equipotential established at the inside surface of the chamber in response to a voltage applied to the electrodes. The chamber duct is a size and shape to provide a negligible voltage drop across any dimension thereby substantially confining a conduction of current between the electrodes to the chamber of the electrode housing.
